Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, the ED Coder is responsible for accurately coding professional services (diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers) from medical records in a hospital/clinic setting. This includes analyzing the medical record and assigning ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes with appropriate modifiers.
Medical coding is performed following:

ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting

CPT guidelines for reporting professional and surgical services
-
CMS updates
-
Coding Clinic articles published by the American Hospital Association

HCPCS code book for supplies and equipment
-
NCCI Edits
-
Client Coding Guidelines
Primary Responsibilities Include:
-
Verifying and abstracting all relevant data from medical records to assign appropriate codes in Urgent Care Centres and ED settings
-
Coding 12 charts per hour while meeting quality standards
-
Tracking and implementing updates from AMA, AHA, and CMS
-
Reviewing medical records and adding/modifying CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and lab tests
-
Extracting and coding various screening CPT and PQRS codes
-
Checking NCCI edits and LCD/NCD coverage determinations and modifying codes and modifiers accordingly
-
Contributing to team productivity and quality improvement
-
Organizing and prioritizing work to ensure timely coding and resolution of edits
-
Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA policies and security protocols
-
Complying with company policies, including work location flexibility and shift changes
Required Qualifications:
-
Life Science or Allied Medicine Graduates with certification from AAPC or AHIMA
-
2+ years of experience in multispecialty Evaluation & Management coding
-
Hands-on experience in the Emergency Department and Critical Care coding
-
Strong knowledge of Medical Terminology, Human Anatomy & Physiology
-
Proficient in determining EM levels based on MDM and applying modifiers using NCCI and CPT guidelines
-
Expertise in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines
