Medical Coding Job at Optum – Responsibilities:
- Evaluate medical records to verify the plan of care for chronic medical conditions
- Perform accurate and timely coding review and validation of Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs) and Diagnoses through medical records
- Document ICD-10-CM codes to ensure compliance with established coding standards and CMS guidelines
- Assist project teams by reviewing charts based on Medicare & Medicaid Risk Adjustment criteria
- Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to interpret clinical documentation and identify appropriate medical codes
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, specificity, and appropriateness of diagnosis codes
- Evaluate medical record documentation for coding accuracy in alignment with ICD-10 codes submitted to CMS
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities to ensure accurate HCC information
- Meet production and quality targets
Required Qualifications:
- Any graduate experience
- Graduates in Medical, Paramedical, or Life Science disciplines preferred
- AAPC/AHIMA Certification mandatory (CRC preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of medical coding work experience
- Good knowledge in Anatomy, Physiology & Medical terminology
