Brief Job Overview:

This is a hands-on, non-supervisory position in USP-India’s Microbiology Lab, responsible for conducting lab test procedures as per USP’s Microbiology General Chapters & Monographs. The incumbent in this role is involved in Verification Programs, Method Verifications, Method Developments, Method Validations, Reference Standard Collaborative testing, Rapid Microbiology Methods, and Training programs. The Scientist is also responsible for the independent execution of project tasks when assigned in alignment with USP’s objectives and mission.

The Scientist II has the following responsibilities:

• Hands-on Bench Work: Carries out experimentation in the Microbiology area of Biologics lab and records experimental data, ensuring clear and accurate transcription of results and calculations.
• Independently plans and executes experiments for project tasks assigned. Derives interpretation and conclusion of results.
• Independently plans for monthly monitoring of Microbiology/Biologics labs and monitors the trends of data to ensure quality and compliance.
• Plans daily work, records and reviews results and documents to ensure correctness and to fulfill targets on time.
• Completes assigned work with quality and in a timely manner. Assists the group leader in implementing laboratory procedures and systems. Coordinates with other team members as per requirements.
• Prepares protocols and reports, including calculations and conclusions. Prepares presentations and documents related to projects and various scientific discussions as delegated.
• Follows QMS practices and takes part in audits as per delegation.
• Assists the supervisor in planning, evaluating, and implementing lab procedures and systems.
• Follows and ensures aspects related to safety, ethics, and legal compliance.
• Performs in-charge duties for the allocated lab/equipment/inventory/supporting activities and takes responsibility for the timely completion of the tasks assigned.
• Demonstrates a strong desire to continue learning and grow personal capability. Pursues, recommends, and implements new approaches or processes to improve laboratory operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, a commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, and the ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

• Master’s degree in Microbiology (preferably) or Life Sciences with 3–6 years of experience in the Microbiology quality control department, working on Pathogen Testing, Bioburden, Microbial Identifications & Quantitations, Vitamin Assays, and Environment Monitoring.
• Other related tests include but are not limited to ELISA Assays, Allergen Testing, Antibiotic Potency Assays, Sterility, Bacterial Endotoxin Testing, and Food and Water Testing.
• Practical experience in executing Compendial Microbiological test procedures and work experience in cGLP is desired.
• Experience in QMS and handling audits.
• Sound knowledge of Rapid Microbiology methods will be preferred.
• Computer proficiency is a must.

Additional Desired Preferences:

• Work experience in Advanced/Rapid Microbiology Methods.
• Past experience working with quantitative methods of Endotoxins such as USP <85> & <86>.
• The candidate must take personal responsibility to ensure work is delivered on time and is of the highest possible quality.
• Basic understanding of scientific concepts, ability to anticipate, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems, and adaptability to multitasking.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to use various statistical models for biological data calculations.
• The ability to influence and work as an effective team member.
• Results-driven with demonstrated successful outcomes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
