Applications are invited from eligible candidates to work on the following post on a contract basis in a research project funded by an external agency at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, as per the details below.

Name of post (number): Senior Research Scientist (Number of post = 1)

Likely duration: One Year (extendable based upon the satisfactory performance of the subject; till completion of the project)

Consolidated remuneration: INR 1,25,000/- per month (Consolidated)

Project title: High performance host immune biomarker-based rapid tests for diagnosis and treatment monitoring of tuberculosis

Funding Agency: United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA)

Nature of work/responsibilities and expectations

• Coordinate with field team for sample collection from Tuberculosis (TB) patients.
• Willing to travel with field team at the time of sample collection – Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu
• Overall responsible for sample collection, transport, processing, and storage
• Perform Mycobacterium culture, DST 1st and 2nd line drugs, GeneXpert and Line probe assay
• Perform molecular and immunological assays for detection of human blood immune biomarkers (mRNA and protein signatures) for diagnosis of pulmonary TB (PTB) and extrapulmonary TB (EPTB)
• Should be involved in pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical procedures
• Data collection & analysis, preparation of annual progress report and publications

Eligibility criteria (Qualifications and experience)

A. Essential:

• PhD in Microbiology
• Five years of post-PhD experience in Tuberculosis (TB)
• The candidate should have demonstrated work experience (minimum one publication in PubMed indexed journal) in human blood based biomarkers for the diagnosis of PTB & EPTB.
• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in Tamil

B. Desirable:

• Demonstrated experience (Publications in PubMed indexed journals) in non-tuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) and drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis
• Demonstrated experience (Publications in PubMed indexed journals) in MGIT, GeneXpert, Line probe assay, real-time PCR, and ELISA for TB diagnosis and research
• Experience in handling Indian-foreign collaboration projects in TB
• Field experience in TB research

C. Maximum Age Limit: 40 years (as on last date of receipt of applications)

EVALUATION CRITERIA: After the evaluation of the application form, the recruitment process will be as follows:

Written test syllabus:

• Knowledge on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and Non-tuberculosis mycobacterium (NTM)
• Knowledge on human immune biomarkers for TB diagnosis
• Knowledge on Molecular techniques used for Tuberculosis diagnosis
• MTB culture and Drug susceptibility testing
• Knowledge on Biosafety, sterilization techniques and Bio-medical waste management
• Knowledge on Good clinical laboratory practices/Good laboratory practices

Interview areas:

• Work experience in human blood mRNA and Protein signatures for TB diagnosis
• Work experience in MTB and NTM
• Work experience in molecular and immunological techniques in TB diagnosis
• Good laboratory practices – Pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical procedures
• Project coordination and field experience in TB research
• Previous experience in foreign collaboration projects in TB research

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

1. This position is purely on contract basis for an externally sponsored project, and the person engaged will have no claim to any regular post in JIPMER at any time. Further, the position is only for the duration of the project and based purely on external funding support for the project.
2. The engagement may be extended or curtailed at the discretion of the Project Investigator.
3. Qualification and experience should be in a relevant discipline/field and in a reputed institution/organization. The experience should have been gained after acquiring the essential qualification.
4. Qualification, experience, other terms, and conditions may be relaxed/altered at the discretion of the Principal Investigator.
5. Valid email ID and mobile number are compulsory.
6. Consolidated salary of the post may vary from time to time. No other allowance/facilities other than consolidated salary shall be extended.
7. Submission of wrong or false information at any stage during the process of selection or canvassing of any kind will lead to disqualification or even termination if detected after the person has been engaged.
8. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview. Decision of the Project Investigator will be final. If the number of applications is very large, more stringent criteria than those specified above may be used to determine eligibility.
9. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
10. Incomplete applications and applications that are not in the prescribed format and those not fulfilling the essential criteria above are likely to be summarily rejected. Candidates may attach their CVs with the application form. However, applications with CV alone and without the prescribed form and certificates will be rejected.

The eligible candidates should report at 09.00 am on 26.08.2024 at the Microbiology office, II floor, Institute Block, Dept. of Microbiology, JIPMER for verification of Identity proof and age (Aadhar/voter ID/10th Mark sheet) in original; Certificates of qualification and experience and proof for age relaxation if any.

The written test will be conducted on 26.08.2024 at 9.30 AM at Microbiology department, II floor, Institute Block, Dept. of Microbiology, JIPMER.

Based on the written test, candidates will be shortlisted for an interview on 26.08.2024 at 2.00 PM. The names of the candidates shortlisted for interview after the written test will be announced at 12.45 P.M. at the same venue.
