Recruitment of Research Project Personnel
The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram is one of the premier science education and research institutes established by the Government of India in 2008 to impart high-quality education integrated with outstanding research in modern science. The Institute invites applications for the following positions on a contract basis:
Name of the post: Project Research Scientist
Title of the project: Modulating cellular metabolism to enhance neural stem cell function in adult mammalian brain
Funding agency: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
Minimum educational qualifications:
- PhD in any discipline of Life Sciences with relevant research experience.
- Post-graduate degree passed with first class, must have qualified national level exams conducted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR etc., and have more than three years of research experience in the relevant field (as prescribed by the funding agency).
Desirable qualifications:
The candidate should be highly motivated to do basic research in biology, academically excellent. Must have technical expertise (at least in part) required for the project, such as animal handling (mouse), cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology, biochemistry techniques, and histology.
Number of posts: 1
Fellowship amount: Rs. 56000+HRA
Tenure of the post: One year (Performance will be reviewed after 6 months, extendable on the basis of performance; project duration 3 years)
Age: Not exceeding 35 years with 3-5 years relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically disabled as per government norms

The application should include a detailed resume with sufficient information of past research work, a one-page statement of interest in biological research, contact details, a photograph, and scanned copies of educational/professional qualifications and reprints of research articles, if any. Incomplete applications or applications failing to meet the minimum criteria will be disqualified. The candidate should also add the name and contact details of two referees who can comment on their academic and technical abilities.
Information regarding the interviews will be sent by email to all the short-listed candidates.
Selected candidates must submit the following documents to the Institute:
- Recent passport size photograph
- One photocopy each of all relevant certificates and other testimonials in support of age, qualification, and experience
- Originals of all certificates for verification of documents
General Information:
- Candidates are advised to mention in the application form all relevant qualifications and experience for the position applied for. The prescribed educational qualifications are the bare minimum. Mere fulfilment of the minimum criteria does not entitle a candidate to be shortlisted for the interview.
- Appointment to the post is governed by the terms and conditions laid down by the funding agency for the specific project and for the specific post.
- The qualifying degree of the candidate for the position applied for must be from a recognized University/Institution.
- Shortlisting of candidates is done by the Selection Committee constituted for this purpose, if the number of applications received is high. Shortlisting is done taking into consideration the qualifications and experience over and above the minimum prescribed in the advertisement.
- No Travelling Allowance or Dearness Allowance will be paid for appearing for the interview.
- Selected candidates are required to join duty at the earliest on receipt of the offer letter.
- Appointment is purely temporary and will terminate automatically on closure of the research project, without any further notice or compensation.
- The appointed candidate does not have any right to claim appointment or absorption into the job supported by the funding agency or IISER Thiruvananthapuram during the research project or after the closure of the research project.
