Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) is an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The institute has a distinguished faculty who are affiliated with S.P. Pune University (SPPU) and offers modern infrastructural facilities and well-equipped laboratories for pursuing postgraduate research (M.Sc. and Ph.D.). The current research and development activities encompass biological sciences and focus on six thematic areas, namely Biodiversity & Paleobiology, Bioenergy, Bioprospecting, Developmental Biology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, and Nanobioscience. Applications are invited from Indian citizens with qualified Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from select agencies to pursue Ph.D. research at ARI in the six thematic areas (listed above) with registration at SPPU in the following subjects as per details given below:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION:
- Candidate must have a postgraduate degree in any branch of biological sciences issued before the closing date for submission of applications.
- The candidate should have a minimum of 55% or an equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA). A 5% relaxation in marks will be granted to SC/ST/OBC candidates and persons with disabilities.
- Candidate must hold a valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from select agencies, including CSIR, UGC, DBT (Category I), ICMR, BINC, or DST-Inspire. Candidates who qualified only for Lectureship (LS) in CSIR-UGC (NET), DBT (Category II) and the ‘Project list of ICMR’ or GATE are NOT eligible to apply.

HOW TO APPLY:

- Copies of certificates in support of educational qualifications, date of birth, Disability, and Community (in case of SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates only) should be submitted with the application. Candidates will have to produce the original certificates at the time of joining.
- The last date for submission of duly filled application together with all enclosures is 29th August 2024.
- Selected candidates are required to contact the recommended guide(s) from 16th to 20th September 2024, to engage in discussions with scientists, finalize their research guide, and complete their joining procedures before 30th September 2024.
GENERAL TERMS:
- The number of posts to be filled may vary. The Institute also reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason.
- The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview or subsequent selection.
- The upper age limit for JRF shall be 28 years as on 29th August 2024. Age relaxation for women and candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS categories will be in accordance with the Government of India guidelines.
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS should submit a latest copy of Caste Certificate/Certificates and candidates who claim concession/relaxation being differently abled and other categories of candidates need to bring relevant certificates issued by the Competent Authority in the prescribed proforma at the time of Joining.
- The terms and conditions pertaining to the fellowship will be according to the funding agency that grants the fellowship. ARI will not be responsible for providing fellowships.
- Incomplete/partially filled application forms will not be considered.
- Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification of candidature.
- The Ph.D. program is a full-time commitment, and selected candidates may choose to reside on campus. On-campus hostel accommodation is provided to selected students on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Any legal proceedings in respect of any matter of claim or dispute arising out of this advertisement and or an application in response thereto can be instituted only in Pune and courts at Pune only shall have sole and exclusive jurisdiction to try any such cause/dispute.
- No correspondence will be entertained from candidates who are not called for interview/selected for the program.
