Deep Ocean Mission of Ministry of Earth Sciences funded project “Deep-sea Chondrichthyans of India: Taxonomy, distribution, biology and current status”

Interested and eligible candidates are requested to send the duly filled application by email to [email protected] on or before 22nd July 2024 for the 2 post of Junior Research Fellow and 1 post of Senior Research Fellow in the project entitled “Deep-sea Chondrichthyans of India: Taxonomy, distribution, biology and current status” at the Zoological Survey of India, Marine Biology Regional Centre, Near Hotel Sangeetha, Santhome High Road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Educational Qualification M. Sc. in Zoology/Marine Biology/Life Sciences/or equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. M. Sc. in Zoology/Marine Biology/Life Sciences/or equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University with two years of experience.
Desirable Qualification Relevant Research experience in fish taxonomy, systematics, zoology, field survey, fish collection, field photography, molecular biology techniques-DNA isolation, PCR, Phylogenetic analyses, and bioinformatics. Relevant Research experience in fish taxonomy, systematics, zoology, field survey, fish collection, field photography, molecular biology techniques-DNA isolation, PCR, Phylogenetic analyses, and bioinformatics.
Salary Rs. 37000/- + 27% HRA* Rs. 42000/- + 27% HRA*

 

*Fellowship will be as per the SERB rules and regulations.

Duration: Initially up to one year, may be extended for further period(s) based on satisfactory performance of individual and funding.

Date & Place of Interview: Offline and Online mode, link will be sent to the selected candidates for attending the interview to be conducted virtually through video conferencing, through a short notice.

Place of Posting: Marine Biology Regional Centre, Zoological Survey of India, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Extensive and intensive field Surveys to collect deepsea sharks species from the Indian EEZ.
  2. Identification of deepsea sharks based on the morphology and DNA.
  3. DNA barcoding of collected fishes.
  4. Museum cataloguing of collected samples.

General Instructions:

  1. The above post is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project.
  2. The upper age limit shall not be more than 28 years for JRF and 32 for SRF. (The age limit may be relaxed as per Government of India rules and regulations).
  3. Candidates should email the duly filled-in application with attested scan copies of testimonials of qualifications, experience, date of birth etc. along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations.
  4. The original certificates and other credentials will be verified at the time of joining and at the time of the verification of original documents (even after selection), if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection and due action will be implemented.
  5. The offer of appointment to the candidates will be on purely contractual basis for one year and may be terminated any time if not found suitable.
  6. The selected candidate need to join immediately or at a short notice.

  8. The Director, Zoological Survey of India reserves the right to selection or rejection of any candidature and cancellation of the interview.

  11. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their qualification and experience. Mere possession of qualification and experience may not ascertain the short listing of candidates for interview or selection.
  12. Mode of Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be informed through email for appearing before an interview committee to be conducted virtually through video conferencing, through a short notice.
