Admission Categories of Ph.D. Research Scholars
All the Departments offer full-time and part-time Doctoral Programmes under the following categories. The category code is also given in the table below:

NOTE: For admission to course code 11, candidates must have successfully passed the GATE/NET examination in relevant discipline. For admission to course code 12, candidates must have fellowship from CSIR/UGC/ ICAR/ICMR/ DST/ DRDO/ NPCIL/ GPAT/similar national level entrance tests in relevant discipline. Candidates may also have sponsorship from any other organization (refer above Table).
Institute Stipendiary Full-Time Research Scholar (Course Category: 11)
These scholars shall be eligible for financial assistance in the form of fellowship at the approved rates and guidelines as notified by Government from time to time. The maximum age limit of the candidate should be within 30 years. The fellowship shall be awarded to the students of this code on a Semester–to-Semester basis on the satisfactory academic performance of the scholar, as per PhD Ordinance of the Institute. The scholar shall be eligible for enhanced financial assistance in the form of fellowship as per the guidelines notified by the Government of India from time to time. The sanction of enhancement of Ph.D. Scholarship may be considered w.e.f. due date of enhancement of Ph.D. Scholarship, provided the performance evaluation is completed within one month of due date of enhancement of PhD Scholarship. For all other cases, the sanction of enhancement of Ph.D. Scholarship will be as per the date of performance evaluation.
Sponsored Full-Time Research Scholar (Course Category: 12)
Under this code, those students who receive fellowship from other agencies such as UGC, CSIR, Ph.D, DST, AICTE, etc., are covered. Such candidates shall have to fulfill the eligibility requirement as per the PhD Ordinance of the Institute. It also includes QIP candidates. The candidate may be allowed to continue his/her research work with sponsored fellowship even after submission of the Ph.D. Thesis till the duration of the award of the fellowship.
Sponsored Part-Time Research Scholar (Course Category: 13)
Under this code, employees of Government/Semi-Government Organizations /R&D Organizations or government academic institutions shall be eligible. Further, the employees of industry/academic institution of repute with a minimum standing for 10 years shall also be eligible. Such candidates must fulfill the following conditions:
(A) The candidate must have a total work experience of at least 10 years with a minimum of 05 years continuous service with any employer.
(B) The candidate must submit a No Objection Certificate from the employer at the time of interview. Candidates may also be admitted under this code under MoU signed between the Institute and other University/Organization/Institution/Industry. The eligibility criteria mentioned in point (A), the requirement of GATE/NET, and the requirement of 10 years of standing of industry/academic institution of repute will not be applicable to such candidates.
Faculty/Staff/Sponsored Project Fellow of MNNIT Allahabad: Part-Time Research Scholar (Course Category: 14)
Under this code Faculty/Staff/Project Fellow of MNNIT Allahabad shall be admitted as part-time research scholars. Project Fellows include those who are working in the various externally funded research projects undertaken by the Institute. Eligibility criteria shall be same as per PhD Ordinance of the Institute. Project fellows shall be registered under the PI(s)/ Co- PIs in the same department where the Project has been sanctioned.
NOTE: The candidates in respective categories are required to fulfill the eligibility requirement mentioned in the Section 2 (i.e., Eligibility for Admission).

Students from Abroad
The eligibility of students from Abroad shall be verified by DDSC as per the PhD Ordinance of the Institute. Valid GRE score will be applicable for these candidates.
Sponsored foreign students
Foreign students shall be sponsored by their Government or employer or awarded scholarship by Government of India, Indian Council for Culture Relations (ICCR) or other such Agencies/Organizations. These students may apply to the Institute through DASA/Ministry of External Affairs.
Self-Financed foreign students
These students may apply to the Institute through DASA/ Ministry of External Affairs.
Eligibility for Admission
- The eligibility conditions given below shall be considered to be the absolute minimum. Departments shall reserve the right to prescribe any requirements over and above these, subject to the approval of the SDPC.
- The “specified minimum” marks/CPI (Cumulative Performance Index), referred to in subsequent sections shall imply a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or CPI of 6.5 at qualifying Examination. For SC/ST candidate’s eligibility in specified minimum marks/CPI shall be relaxed as per the Government of India norms. (Institute will not apply/accept any conversion formula from CPI to percentage or vice-versa. The grade/marks awarding system as appeared on the candidate’s award sheet shall be acceptable).
- For admission to all advertised course categories, candidates must have successfully passed any national level examination as mentioned in Section 1.
- Reservation in the Programme shall be done as per the Government of India Rules across the Institute.
- If a candidate is not shortlisted due to non availability of seat in a particular category in a particular Department/School/Cell, in that case application fee will be refunded.
Ph.D. in Engineering (4.3.1)
- Master Degree in relevant branch of Engineering/Technology with marks not below 60% or CPI 6.5 OR
- B.Tech. with Research or equivalent with a minimum 70% marks or CPI 7.5, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Master’s Degree in Science/Applied biological sciences/Computer Application or any appropriate discipline with a minimum 75% marks or CPI 8.0.
Ph.D. in Management, Humanities and Social Science (4.3.2)
- Master’s Degree in Management / Technology / Engineering / Economics / Commerce / Science / Computer Applications / Social Science / Humanities with a minimum 60% marks or equivalent CPI 6.5. OR
- B.Tech. with Research or equivalent with a minimum 70% marks or CPI 7.5, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum 75% marks or CPI 8.0. or Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) having minimum three years of professional experience as practicing Chartered Accountant with minimum 60% marks at both graduation level, as well as CA Examination.
Ph.D. in Sciences (4.3.3)
- Master’s Degree in relevant discipline with a minimum 60% Marks or CPI 6.5. OR
- B.Tech. with Research or equivalent with a minimum 70% marks or CPI 7.5, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with marks not below 75% or CPI 8.0.
Ph.D. in Geographic Information System (GIS) Cell (4.3.4)
- M.Tech. or equivalent degree in GIS & Remote Sensing or equivalent discipline/Civil Engineering/ Computer Science and Engineering /Electronics Engineering /Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering /Information Technology /Agriculture Engineering /Mining Engineering; with minimum marks 60% or CPI 6.5. OR
- M.Sc. or equivalent degree in GIS & Remote Sensing/Applied Geology/Geophysics/Geography/ Environmental Science/Computer Science/Mathematics with minimum marks 75% or CPI 8.0. OR
- Degree in Master of Computer Application with minimum marks 75% or CPI 8.0. OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 75% marks or CPI 8.0 (Candidates meeting above mentioned eligibility criteria must have Mathematics as subject up to 10+2 level)

Application Procedure
I. Applicants are required to submit their application through the online application system using the portal https://academics.mnnit.ac.in/admission2024 only.
“No other means of application shall be acceptable”
II. There are following two steps in the online application procedure:
STEP–1 REGISTER BY FILLING YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS:
- Please fill the correct details as required in the given field.
- An application ID, required for further processing, would be generated in this step.
STEP–2 ONLINE FILLING OF APPLICATION FORM AND ONLINE PAYMENT OF APPLICATION FEES:
- Log-in with the application ID generated after step 1.
- Prior to filling the online application form, please make sure that you have:
- Scanned copy of all your documents in .pdf format (size up to 1 MB).
- Your passport size photograph in JPEG format (size up to 100 kB).
- Photograph of your signature in JPEG format (size up to 30 kB).
- After login, follow the on-screen instructions to fill the online application form.
- Please pay the non-refundable Application fee by SBI-MOPS (online digital payment gateway from SBI) – ₹ 1200/- (₹ 600/- for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
- Fill all the details carefully. No change in the filled details will be permitted later on.
- Submit the required documents, your photograph, and photo of your signature.
- If a candidate is applying in more than one department, then he/she should fill separate application forms with the prescribed application fee for each department.
- Take print out the form, paste the same photograph which was uploaded, attach all required documents and send it to the respective department at the address mentioned in the table below:

Admission Criteria
The procedure given below for selection is liable to change due to unforeseen situations, and the guidelines given below are only informative in nature.
- Admission to the Ph.D. Programmes under course categories 11 (Institute Stipendiary Full-Time Research Scholar), 12 (Sponsored Full-Time Research Scholar), 13 (Sponsored Part-Time Research Scholar), and 14 (Faculty/Staff/Sponsored Project Fellow of MNNIT Allahabad: Part-Time Research Scholar) shall be based on academic merit and/or written examination and/or interview of the eligible shortlisted candidates by the DDSC.
- The candidates under Course Category Code 12 must fulfill the additional requirements of their sponsoring/funding agency, if any.
- The candidates under course code 13 shall also be evaluated based on the recommendation of their employer and a Statement of Purpose along with written examination and interview.
- Project Fellow, if admitted, shall be required to pursue his/her Ph.D. work in the area of the research project and with the PI and/or CO-PI only in the same department, where the project has been sanctioned.
- Foreign students shall also be admitted on the basis of an interview and a Statement of Purpose.
- Candidates applying for admission under course categories 11, 12, 13 & 14 must have successfully passed the GATE/NET/CSIR/ICAR/ICMR/DST/DRDO/NPCIL/GPAT examination in the relevant branch/subject. Please refer to eligibility criteria given in Section 2.
- The list of candidates eligible to appear in the written exam/interview will be displayed on the portal as per the specified schedule. The applicants will appear for the selection process with the condition that they have ascertained their eligibility as per the Information Brochure. The submitted documents for eligibility will be verified at the time of the interview.
- In case a candidate does not accept the offer by paying the prescribed fee by the specified date, the offer of admission shall stand automatically withdrawn.
- The offer of admission shall also stand withdrawn if the candidate fails to register by the last date of registration after accepting the offer of admission.
- If at any stage during the course of study it is found that any of the documents submitted by the candidate are not correct, then his/her admission shall be canceled, and the candidate will be solely responsible for it. Further, the Institute reserves all the rights to take any legal action in accordance with the law.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
(i) Separate application forms must be filled for courses offered by different departments along with the prescribed application fee.
(ii) All updates/notifications/results will be declared through the admission portal www.academics.mnnit.ac.in/admission2024 only. No separate admit card/letter will be sent by the institute for appearing in the selection process.
(iii) Candidates are advised to visit the admission portal for regular updates.
(iv) The selected candidate, who has completed all the prerequisite examinations including project/thesis examination and the viva voce before the date of registration but is unable to produce the certificate in proof of having passed and secured the minimum specified qualifying marks, may be considered for provisional admission. However, if admitted provisionally, they will be required to produce the original documents of the qualifying degree examination within six weeks from the date of registration, failing to which the admission will automatically stand canceled. In special cases, relaxation to this date may be given by Chairperson, Senate.

Required Documents
The candidates are required to upload the following documents during the online application. Further, they are required to bring these documents in original at the time of physical reporting:
a. Any Govt. issued Photo Identity Card, preferably Aadhar Card
b. E-receipt of Fee payment
c. GATE/NET/etc. score card (as applicable)
d. High School (Class X) Certificate & Mark-sheet.
e. Grade/Mark sheets of qualifying examination for all semesters
f. Degree/ Provisional certificate (if appearing in qualifying examination, then required to be submitted within six weeks from the date of registration)
g. Migration certificate (if appearing in qualifying examination, then required to be submitted within six weeks from the date of registration)
h. Character Certificate (from the Institute last attended).
i. Letter of award of fellowship (for category 12 only).
j. Institute ID card for MNNIT Faculty/Staff (for category 14 only).
k. Letter of appointment for project staff (for category 14 only).
l. No Objection Certificate from employer (for course category 13 and 14 only).
m. Certificate of employment (for course category 13 only).
n. Valid Category certificate (if applicable) in prescribed format of GoI. For candidates belonging to OBC [Non Creamy Layer]/EWS Category, the certificate must be issued on or after 01.04.2024 (at the time of admission/document verification)

The candidates are also required to bring the following documents at the time of registration.
a. Recent Color Passport size Photographs (02 Nos.).
