We are looking to hire a Sr Res Scientist, Hygiene Ecosystem, Advocacy & Future Mixes in our Home Care S&T team based in Unilever R&D Bangalore.

Tasks to be Handled:

The S&T Hygiene team is involved in generating insights and delivering new, disruptive and innovative technologies and translate the relevant science generated both internally and externally into differentiated products. An integral part of building future fit capabilities for hygiene is building an ecosystem and advocacy programme to support new and disruptive innovations to land in marketplace.

The purpose is to strengthen the hygiene ecosystem encompassing industry/academic experts and KOFs, leveraging Govt Grant funding schemes for Industry-academia initiatives, fostering frontiers of new sciences in Hygiene space, and leverage this ecosystem for new scientific insights and a robust advocacy programme for all key hygiene innovations.

This role will also be responsible to build future hygiene mixes and formulations, especially in the newer areas like Biotics, targeted hygiene. This new role will be part of S&T HC Hygiene, and will be based in Bangalore.

Fields of Responsibility:

Outward focus and external networking are key requirements. The incumbent needs to build networks that are broad (covering academia, SMEs, startups, funding agencies in India and outside of India, science administrators). The incumbent must have vision to identify set of partner organizations that are a strategic fit and in alignment with Homecare Hygiene Powerhouse and Clean Future strategies.

The incumbent should be able to create relationships across senior leaders as well as peers in the partner organizations and able to create win-win scenarios for both the partner organization and Unilever.

Critically, this role requires highly developed SOL leadership behaviours particularly around the areas of growth mindset and change management. Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements to develop an ecosystem. Implementation of agreed policies and adoption of best practice in grant management. Financial forecasting, budget planning, monitoring and management. Maintain a C4G mindset, where complexity, resource efficiency, risk taking, speed are all embraced and lived by the team.

The ability to navigate this requires developed organisational awareness and an ability to see, persuade and negotiate optimal solutions and very high level of skills in conflict resolution and coming up with creative win-win scenarios. The incumbent will need to have a range of leadership styles and approaches to ensure that he/she caters for the differing internal and external audiences.

Any Other Relevant Information Having a Bearing on the Job:

This role will also be responsible to build future hygiene mixes and formulations, especially in the newer areas like Biotics, targeted hygiene.

Environment:

The role is mainly focused on managing both external partners and creating win-win partnerships and internal stakeholders in HC organization.

Problem Solving:

  • In this role, strategy must be developed and implemented. The incumbent will be instrumental and pivotal in creating bold and ambitious yet credible business cases to ensure the success of the ambition, interfacing at senior levels to challenge, persuade and motivate senior leaders (VPs and Directors) to do this.
  • High degree on problem solving skills will be required for this job. There are various dimensions of problems to be solved, and the incumbent needs to work together with procurement, finance and legal functions to provide solutions. The incumbent needs to have a strong influencing skills and stakeholder management skills to solve other types of problems in building innovation ecosystem.
  • In this role, additionally technical skills on formulation development for future mixes for Hygiene will be required. This will encompass understanding of various formulation chassis across home care, incorporate future fit hygiene technologies and create new disruptive mixes that bring in competitive edge.

  • One or two direct reports.
  • Interact with 3P / external partners, external resources.

Skills and Experience:

  • M.Sc./M.Tech./Ph.D. in Biotech with a strong understanding of the Indian/Global ecosystem and experience in Home Care formulations
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in FMCG industry, preferably handling HC formulations
  • Strong scientific and technical curiosity with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability to work autonomously in situations of ambiguity; Ability to balance long and short term viewpoint.
  • Ability to challenge, persuade and motivate teams to think differently and embrace different ways of working.
  • Comfortable with working on several diverse technology fronts at once.
  • High external orientation
  • Preferred to have experience in IPR management – due diligence and agreements
  • Preferred to have experience in Partner Selection and Partner relationship management
  • Negotiation, Conflict resolution skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
