Internship Opportunity January 2024 – Chronobiology & Behavioural Neurogenetics Lab
We are offering internship opportunities (minimum duration of 3 months with the possibility of extension) in our Chronobiology & Behavioural Neurogenetics Lab. Join us to conduct cutting-edge research projects in the field of chronobiology and behavioural neurogenetics.
Projects Available:
1. Studies on Populations Evolving Under a Semi-Natural Environment
We are conducting studies on populations evolving under a semi-natural environment. The details of these studies can be found in the Chitrang Thesis 28Dec2022.pdf. In this project, we will focus on various life-history traits, including development time, fecundity, tolerance to stress, and lifespan, as well as circadian rhythms in oviposition. The experiments will be conducted in our outdoor enclosure. Previous experience in a fly lab is preferred but not essential.
2. Studies on Populations Selected for Morning or Evening Emergence
Join our project exploring populations selected for morning or evening emergence. For more information about these populations, refer to the Abhilash Thesis_10092020_revised.pdf and Arijit thesis revised 27052022.pdf. We are interested in investigating possible changes in metabolism and immune responses among these populations. Additionally, we aim to document any effects on wing expansion phenotype in the morning and evening emerging flies. Previous experience
in a fly lab is preferred but not essential.3. Studies on the Consequences of Presence/Absence of Conspecifics
Our project focuses on studying the consequences of the presence or absence of conspecifics (social experience) on subsequent behaviors and life history traits of Drosophila melanogaster. In the case of behavior observations (C1), we require interns with experience in performing behavioral observations on any organism or individuals with machine learning skills. For life history traits (C2), previous experience in a fly lab is preferred but not essential.
Important Information:
There is no possibility of receiving a fellowship or stipend during the internship period. However, we will approach our Dean Fellowships and Extensions office for entry through the Long term Visiting Student Programme (LVSP). On-campus accommodation is not available, so students will need to arrange their own accommodation nearby.
How to Apply:
Interested students may email their applications to [email protected] by Dec 31st 2023.
