Here are five possible interview questions that can be asked in the technical round for the Senior Research Fellowship position, along with their answers:

1. Question: Can you elaborate on your experience with molecular cloning, Lateral Flow Assay development, and cell and virus culture? How have these skills contributed to your previous research work? Answer: In my previous role, I was extensively involved in molecular cloning techniques to manipulate and engineer DNA sequences for various research projects. Additionally, I was responsible for developing Lateral Flow Assays for rapid diagnostic purposes. I also have experience in culturing cells and viruses, which played a crucial role in understanding the behavior of the porcine reproductive & respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus. These skills have been fundamental in advancing my research work.

2. Question: The project involves developing sustainable diagnostics and vaccine for the porcine reproductive & respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus. Can you share your insights into the challenges associated with this kind of research and how you plan to address them? Answer: Developing diagnostics and vaccines for viruses like PRRS involves challenges such as genetic variability and the complex interaction between the virus and the host. I plan to address these challenges by utilizing advanced molecular biology techniques to understand the virus’s genetic makeup and its interactions with the host immune system. This understanding will guide the development of targeted diagnostics and effective vaccine strategies.

3. Question: The eligibility criteria mention specific qualifications such as ICAR/UGC/CSIR NET qualifications and research experience. Can you provide examples of your research experience related to the criteria mentioned? Answer: Certainly. In my previous research, I conducted studies involving the identification of genetic markers associated with disease resistance in animals. This work required the application of molecular techniques and data analysis methods. I also collaborated with fellow researchers to design experiments and interpret results effectively, showcasing my research experience and ability to work within a team.

4. Question: The role requires experience in basic molecular biology techniques. Can you provide specific examples of the techniques you have employed and their relevance to the study of viruses? Answer: I have hands-on experience in techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for amplifying DNA, gel electrophoresis for analyzing DNA fragments, and DNA sequencing for determining genetic information. These techniques have been invaluable in studying viruses like PRRS. For instance, PCR helps in detecting viral DNA, and DNA sequencing aids in understanding the genetic variations that contribute to the virus’s behavior and transmission.

5. Question: The project aims to develop sustainable diagnostics and a vaccine. How do you envision translating research findings into practical applications that can benefit the pig population in the North East Region of India? Answer: Translating research findings into practical applications requires a multidisciplinary approach. I plan to collaborate with veterinarians, biotechnologists, and relevant stakeholders to ensure that our diagnostics and vaccine development align with the region’s specific needs. Regular interactions with pig farmers and veterinary experts will provide insights into the challenges faced, enabling us to design effective and locally relevant solutions.
