India’s Largest Plant Microbe Library
Bioprime Agrisolutions, an innovator in the field of agricultural biotech, has just rolled out the Bionexus library. This resource, a first for India, is the largest compendium of microbes related to plant life in the nation. The goal of the project is to tap into the untapped capabilities of the microbial communities present in plants, bringing forth a transformative perspective towards crop durability, yield, and defense.
At present, the Bionexus library contains an impressive collection of more than 15,000 microbial specimens, derived from over 300 different sites across the length and breadth of India. The repository boasts samples from diverse geographical locations such as Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Pangong Tso in Leh, Sonmarg, Kashmir, and even the caverns of Kerala. This array of microbes span altitudes from sea level to 16,500 feet, pH ranges from 5 to 11, annual precipitation levels from 210 mm to 11,430 mm, and temperature extremes from -8C to 70C. Habitats covered are extensive, including grasslands, rainforests, lakes, caves, deserts, glaciers, river basins, hot water springs, sulfur springs, mines, and more. This rich database of microbial diversity is poised to offer scientists and researchers unparalleled understanding into India’s distinctive microbial
ecology, which is increasingly vital in the wake of climate change and the pressing need for sustainable farming methods.
