Applications are invited from suitable candidates for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position to work on the abovementioned project sponsored by Department of Science and Technology under the supervision of Prof. Srikanth Mutnuri, Department of Biological Sciences, BITS-Pilani, K K Birla Goa campus, Goa.

Project title – “”Combination of Constructed Vertical flow Wetlands, Microalgae Photobioreactor and Microbial Fuel Cell (KIT) for wastewater treatment in small pig production farms” under India-Portugal Joint Research Projects 2022″
Project Aim – The projects aims to develop a cost-effective wastewater
treatment system by combining 3 technologies Constructed Vertical flow Wetlands CW, Microalgal cultivation in photobioreactors PBR, and Microbial Fuel Cells MFC to overcome an emerging hurdle of wastewater treatment and nitrogen removal.Number of Vacancies – 1

Answer: The project aims to develop a cost-effective wastewater treatment system by combining Constructed Vertical flow Wetlands (CW), Microalgal cultivation in photobioreactors (PBR), and Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC) to address the challenge of wastewater treatment and nitrogen removal in small pig production farms.

My coursework and research experiences have provided me with a strong foundation in the relevant areas of biotechnology and life sciences, making me well-suited for this project.
- Question: Can you discuss your familiarity and experience with the three technologies used in this project (CW, PBR, and MFC)? Answer: I have a good understanding of Constructed Vertical flow Wetlands, Microalgal cultivation in photobioreactors, and Microbial Fuel Cells through my academic coursework and previous research projects. I am eager to delve deeper into these technologies and contribute to their application in wastewater treatment.
- Question: How do you plan to contribute to the successful execution of the project during the three-year duration? Answer: During the project, I intend to actively participate in research design, data collection, and analysis. I will collaborate with the team to optimize the integration of CW, PBR, and MFC systems and contribute valuable insights to achieve efficient wastewater treatment.
- Question: What interests you the most about this project, and why do you think it is essential to address wastewater treatment challenges in small pig production farms? Answer: I am passionate about sustainable environmental solutions, and this project’s combination of innovative technologies excites me. Addressing wastewater treatment challenges in small pig production farms is crucial for environmental protection and resource conservation, making it a significant and meaningful research endeavour.
