RGCB launched in July 2019, a highly innovative MSc Biotechnology Program with two unique specializations – Disease Biology, and Genetic Engineering. The MSc program of RGCB is affiliated to the Regional Centre for Biotechnology an “Institution of National Importance” providing education, training and research established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO, a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) based in Paris. The RGCB Masters Degree in Biotechnology will be for two years inclusive of four semesters

The MSc program at RGCB is unique, since it covers the fundamental fields of theories in Biotechnology, while focusing on laboratory exercises and industrial as well as research applications. The students are also introduced to the concepts of “Enterprise and Entrepreneurship”. This allows students who wish for a career beyond the laboratory in an existing biotechnology industry or for those who dream of starting a new biotechnology enterprise. Students get trained in a real business & technology development bio-incubator where startup companies function.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Here are five possible interview questions for the successful MSc candidates in the technical round, along with their answers:

  1. Can you provide an overview of your research experience and laboratory skills in the field of biotechnology?

Answer: During my undergraduate studies, I actively participated in laboratory courses and research projects focused on biotechnology. I gained hands-on experience in techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and cell culture. Additionally, I conducted experiments to analyze gene expression and protein purification. These experiences have strengthened my practical skills and understanding of biotechnological processes.

  1. How would you apply the concepts of disease biology or genetic engineering in a real-world research scenario?

Answer: In the field of disease biology, I would aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying specific diseases and develop targeted therapies or diagnostic tools. This could involve studying disease-associated genes, analyzing signaling pathways, or exploring immunological responses. In genetic engineering, I would focus on modifying genetic material to create novel organisms or improve existing ones. This could include gene editing techniques, recombinant DNA technology, or synthetic biology approaches.

  1. Have you been involved in any entrepreneurial or industry-related projects during your undergraduate studies? If yes, please provide details.

Answer: Yes, during my undergraduate studies, I collaborated with a biotechnology startup company where I worked on developing a novel diagnostic assay for a specific disease. I was involved in assay optimization, data analysis, and interpretation of results. This experience allowed me to understand the challenges and opportunities in translating scientific research into practical applications and contributed to my understanding of the biotechnology industry.

  1. How do you stay updated with the latest advancements and research findings in the field of biotechnology?

Answer: To stay updated, I regularly read scientific journals, attend conferences, and participate in webinars related to biotechnology. I also follow reputable scientific organizations and researchers on social media platforms to stay informed about breakthroughs and emerging trends. Additionally, I actively engage in discussions with peers and faculty members to exchange knowledge and insights.

  1. Can you provide an example of a challenging research project you have undertaken and how you overcame obstacles to achieve the desired outcomes?

Answer: During my undergraduate research project, I aimed to optimize a bioprocess for the production of a recombinant protein. I encountered challenges in achieving high protein yields and faced technical difficulties during purification. To overcome these obstacles, I conducted extensive literature reviews, sought guidance from mentors, and collaborated with experienced researchers. Through troubleshooting and iterative experimentation, I successfully optimized the bioprocess and obtained satisfactory protein yields.

Remember to personalize your answers based on your own experiences and highlight relevant skills and achievements. Good luck with your interview!
