Applications invited for the post of Senior Research Fellow (SRF) for an LSRB-DRDO funded project entitled in the School of Bio Science and Technology (SBST), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore.

Job Title: Senior Research Fellow (SRF)

Title of the Project: “On-package enzyme-based Halochromic Time Temperature Indicators for Shelf-life of Refrigerated Perishable Foods”.

QualificationMaster’s degree in Biotechnology or a related field and work Experience in Food Packaging Technology.

Required Skills: Experience in food packaging sectors, enzyme technology and natural pigments. Additionally good communication and writing skills.

Additional Skills: Development of biodegradable thin films and pouches.

StipendRs. 35,000/month + HRA (For non-NET/GATE candidates, salary will be provided as per the institution norms)

Possible Interview Questions for the Senior Research Fellow (SRF) Position:

  1. Can you discuss your experience and knowledge in food packaging technology and its application in perishable foods?
    • Answer: I have a Master’s degree in Biotechnology with a specialization in food packaging technology. I have worked on various projects where I gained hands-on experience in developing packaging solutions for perishable foods. I am familiar with the latest trends, materials, and techniques used in the industry.
  2. How would you approach the development of on-package enzyme-based Halochromic Time Temperature Indicators for shelf-life assessment of refrigerated perishable foods?
    • Answer: To develop these indicators, I would first conduct a comprehensive literature review to understand the existing methods and technologies. I would then design and conduct experiments to optimize the enzyme-based indicators and validate their performance under different temperature and time conditions.

    • Answer: Throughout my academic and professional career, I have been involved in projects that required the utilization of enzyme technology and natural pigments. For instance, I have worked on enzymatic reactions for the degradation of food spoilage compounds and the extraction of natural pigments from plant sources.

    • Answer: I believe open and transparent communication is essential for a successful research team. I actively participate in team meetings, share progress updates, and actively listen to the ideas and perspectives of my colleagues. I am also proficient in documenting and presenting research findings effectively.
  5. Can you discuss any previous experience or skills you possess that demonstrate your ability to develop biodegradable thin films and pouches?
    • Answer: During my master’s program, I worked on a project focused on developing biodegradable thin films for food packaging. I have experience in selecting suitable biopolymer materials, film-forming techniques, and evaluating their barrier properties. Additionally, I have collaborated with industry partners to scale up the production of biodegradable pouches.
