APPLY ONLINE

Hey, there are you interested in applying for the PhD Program at NIPGR? Then take a look at all of the possible interview questions and the answers below

  1. What research experience do you have in the field of plant biology? Answer: As a master’s student, I worked on a project focused on understanding the genetic basis of drought tolerance in rice. During this project, I was responsible for performing various molecular biology techniques, including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and sequencing. I also assisted in designing and carrying out greenhouse experiments to evaluate the performance of different rice lines under water-limited conditions.
  2. Can you describe your experience with computational biology? Answer: During my master’s degree, I took a course on bioinformatics, which covered topics such as sequence alignment, phylogenetics, and gene expression analysis. I also worked on a project that involved analyzing RNA sequencing data to identify differentially expressed genes in soybean plants under salt stress. I used tools such as DESeq2 and GO enrichment analysis to interpret the results and gain insights into the biological processes involved in salt stress response.
  3. How familiar are you with genome editing techniques? Answer: I have experience with CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing, which I used during a project focused on improving the resistance of tomato plants to bacterial wilt disease. I designed and cloned guide RNAs targeting the genes responsible for susceptibility to the pathogen, and then introduced these constructs into tomato protoplasts using electroporation. I also used PCR and sequencing to confirm successful editing events.
  4. What is your approach to troubleshooting technical issues in the lab? Answer: I typically start by carefully reviewing the protocols and troubleshooting guides to ensure that I am following the correct procedures. If the problem persists, I consult with my labmates or supervisor to see if they have any suggestions or if they have encountered similar issues before. I also keep a detailed lab notebook to record my observations and steps taken during the experiment, which can help to identify where things went wrong.
  5. Can you describe your experience with scientific writing? Answer: I have written several research articles during my master’s degree, which involved conducting a comprehensive literature review, designing experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results. I also wrote a grant proposal to fund a research project on plant-microbe interactions, which required me to clearly articulate the research objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes. I received positive feedback on my writing from my supervisor and other members of my lab, who commended my ability to communicate complex scientific concepts in a clear and concise manner.
