VACANCY NOTIFICATION

Applications are invited till 08.05.2023 from the eligible and interested candidates for the following project posts which are to be filled purely on contractual and temporary basis to work under the research project entitled “Surveillance of animal reservoir host for leishmaniasis and monitoring of insecticide resistance of the vector species, Phlebotomus argentipes in India” at ICMR-VCRC Field Station, Kottayam, Kerala.

No. of Posts – 02 (Two) – UR-01 & OBC-1

Age limit – Not exceeding 30 years (Relaxable

up to 3 years for OBC candidates)

Contract period – One year (initially) and likely to be extended as per requirement

Place of posting – Kottayam and anywhere in India as per the requirement of the project

Other Information

  1. Candidates who wish to apply for the above-mentioned posts may download the application form from the website of ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre (http://vcrc.icmr.org.in) and ICMR http://main.icmr.nic.in Candidates are requested to fill out the application form along with duly self-attested certificates of educational qualification (Certificate/Statement of marks), experience certificates, etc., and submit the same to The Officer-in-Charge, ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre Field Station, KMC-XXIII/387, Karapuzha, Kottayam West P.O., Kottayam – 686 003, Kerala on or before 08.05.2023 at 5.30 p.m.
  2. Only applications submitted either by post or by hand before the last date will be considered. No other mode will be entertained.
  3. The post is not suitable for Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) as it involves extensive field work.
  4. The information regarding the date of the Personal Interview/Written test will be intimated to the shortlisted candidates by email only.
  5. Age, Qualification, Experience etc., will be reckoned on the last date of receipt of the application.
  6. Mere fulfilling the essential qualification does not guarantee the selection.
  7. Persons already in regular time-scale service under any Government Department/Organization are not eligible to apply.
  8. No TA/DA etc. will be paid to the candidate for appearing in the Written test/interview.
  9. The selected candidate will have no claim for regular appointment in any ICMR Institutes/Centres for the continuation of his/her services in any other project.
  10. Any canvassing by or on behalf of the candidate or bringing political or other outside influence with regard to selection shall be a disqualification and such candidates will not be considered.
  11. The Director, ICMR-VCRC, Puducherry has the right to accept/reject any application without assigning any reason(s) and no correspondence in this matter will be entertained.

General Instructions

  1. The candidates found eligible will be called to attend the Written test and or interview and they are required to be present at the venue in time as mentioned in the call letter.
  2. The offer of engagement will be subject to verification of original certificates as per the advertisement.
  3. No calculators, log tables, or communication devices like mobile phones, tablets/iPad etc., are allowed inside the Examination/Interview Hall.
  4. Request for re-evaluation of answer sheets will not be entertained.
  5. Candidates who resort to malpractice of any kind will immediately be sent out of the Examination Hall.
  6. The candidates attending the above-Written test /Interview must follow COVID-appropriate behaviours.

Consolidated Salary – Rs. 32,000/-

Essential Qualification:

Graduate in Life Sciences from a recognized University with five years of work experience from a recognized Institution or University (or) Master’s degree in Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Public Health Entomology/ Medical Entomology/Life Sciences.

Nature of Duties:

  1. Assistance for collecting blood samples from domesticated animals.
  2. Collection and identification of sandflies from different parts of India.
  3. Laboratory work related to molecular biology/ biochemistry.
  4. Insecticide susceptibility studies on sandflies.

And any other project related works assigned by Principal Investigator.

Answer: I have a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology from a recognized university, and my academic background aligns with the project’s objectives, such as insecticide susceptibility studies, identification of sandflies, and laboratory work related to molecular biology/biochemistry.
  2. Can you describe your experience with insecticide susceptibility studies and sandfly identification? Answer: During my previous job, I was responsible for conducting insecticide susceptibility studies and identifying sandflies from various parts of India. I have also worked on insecticide resistance and other related research projects.
  3. Can you tell us about your laboratory skills, particularly those relevant to molecular biology/biochemistry? Answer: My laboratory skills include DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, and ELISA. I have worked on several projects involving these techniques, and I am comfortable handling various instruments and equipment.
  4. How do you plan to manage the extensive fieldwork required for this project, considering it involves domesticated animals and sandflies from various parts of India? Answer: I am comfortable with fieldwork and have previous experience collecting samples from domesticated animals. I can work in a team and collaborate with other team members to manage fieldwork and sample collection. I am also prepared to work in different locations across India as per the project requirements.
  5. How do you prioritize and manage your project-related tasks, considering you might have to work on various assignments assigned by the Principal Investigator? Answer: I am comfortable working with deadlines and can prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency. I can plan and organize my work schedule, keeping in mind the project timeline and goals. I also have experience working in a team and collaborating with others, which allows me to adjust my work schedule and priorities based on the project’s needs.
