Are you eager to apply for the JRF job at IISER Mohali? Looking for some ways to prepare? Then check out the 5 possible interview questions along with their answers below.

  1. Can you tell us about your experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, and fluorescence microscopy techniques?
Answer: Yes, I have completed my M.Sc. in Biological Sciences and have worked on various projects that involve mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, and fluorescence microscopy techniques. For example, in my previous project, I worked on optimizing cell culture conditions for the growth of specific cell lines and used molecular biology techniques like PCR and western blotting to study gene expression. Additionally, I have experience working with fluorescence microscopy to visualize cellular structures and protein localization.
  2. Have you ever worked with live viruses in a BSL-2/3 facility?
Answer: Yes, I have experience working with live viruses in a BSL-2 facility. During my master’s thesis, I worked with influenza virus and followed all the safety protocols to ensure the safety of myself and others in the lab.
  3. How do you plan to contribute to the project on the development of diphenyl urea derivatives as a new class of antivirals against Dengue virus infection?
Answer: I am excited about the opportunity to work on this project and plan to use my skills in cell culture, molecular biology, and fluorescence microscopy techniques to contribute to the project. Specifically, I would like to help optimize the assay conditions for testing the efficacy of diphenyl urea derivatives and assist in the screening of compounds. Additionally, I would like to use fluorescence microscopy to visualize viral replication and study the mechanism of action of the antivirals.
  4. Can you tell us about a particularly challenging project you have worked on and how you overcame any difficulties?
Answer: Yes, during my master’s thesis, I worked on a project involving the generation of stable cell lines expressing a specific gene. One of the challenges was the low transfection efficiency of the cells, which made it difficult to obtain stable cell lines. However, I tried various transfection methods and finally found a method that gave me a high yield of stable cell lines.
  5. Why do you want to work on this project at IISER Mohali?
Answer: I am interested in this project because it provides an opportunity to work on developing new antivirals against Dengue virus infection, which is a major global health concern. Additionally, I am excited to work at IISER Mohali, which has a strong research focus in the field of Biological Sciences, and I am looking forward to contributing to the research community here.
