If you are looking to apply for one of the 4 JRF jobs that are available at Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI), then make sure to check out the interview questions along with their answers below.

  1. Can you tell us about your experience with molecular cancer genetics, one of the research areas mentioned in the job description?
Answer: As a JRF, I have completed courses on cancer genetics and have worked on research projects related to the topic. In my undergraduate degree, I also took courses on genetics and molecular biology, which I believe would be relevant to this research area.
  2. How would you approach a research project on drug development and delivery, which is another field of research mentioned in the job description?
Answer: If given a research project on drug development and delivery, I would start by conducting a literature review to gather information on existing research and identify knowledge gaps. Then, I would formulate a research question and design experiments to address the question. I would also collaborate with other researchers and use various techniques, such as molecular biology and organic chemistry, to carry out the experiments.
  3. Can you tell us about your experience with grant writing?
Answer: While I have not written a grant myself, I have assisted in writing several grant proposals during my time as a JRF. I have also taken courses on grant writing, where I learned the key elements of a successful proposal, such as clearly defining the research question and methodology, demonstrating the significance of the research, and outlining a feasible timeline and budget.
  4. How do you prioritize and manage your time effectively while working on multiple research projects?
Answer: To manage my time effectively while working on multiple research projects, I first prioritize the projects based on their deadlines and level of urgency. I also break down the projects into smaller tasks and set deadlines for each task. I use project management tools and techniques, such as Gantt charts and to-do lists, to track my progress and ensure that I am on track to meet my deadlines.
  5. Can you tell us about a time when you faced a challenge in your research and how you overcame it?
Answer: During one of my research projects, we encountered unexpected results that did not support our hypothesis. To address this challenge, we first verified the accuracy of our experimental methods and data. We then consulted with other researchers and conducted additional experiments to further explore the results. Ultimately, we discovered a new mechanism that was not previously known, which led to a publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
