NCCS, Pune, invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to a Ph.D. programme for August – 2023 session. The candidates should be bonafide Indian citizens, having a consistently good academic record with strong motivation to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D. degree and with the eligibility mentioned below should apply for the same. Candidates with a post-graduate degree or expecting to complete their Post Graduate Degree by the end of July-2023 and having a valid Junior Research Fellowship from CSIR/UGC/DBT (Category I)/ICMR/ BINC/DST-Inspire, all are eligible to apply

Candidates who do not have a fellowship but have qualified JGEEBILS examination conducted by NCBS/TIFR held in December, 2022 are also eligible to apply. However, candidates shortlisted by NCCS criteria will only be called for interview. A limited number of fellowships will be provided by NCCS to the selected students, who do not have fellowship (from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC/DST-Inspire/BINC) but have qualified JGEEBILS. Submission of application to the NCCS-Ph.D. programme does not automatically guarantee that a candidate will be shortlisted for an interview. Important dates for the interview process are given below :

ELIGIBILITY FOR NCCS Ph.D. PROGRAMME:

1. Candidates should have Masters (postgraduate) degree in any branch of Science with an interest in pursuing research in various areas of Modern Biology like Cell & Molecular biology, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Immunology, Infectious Biology, Cancer Biology, Microbial Ecology etc., having at least 55% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) (A relaxation of 5% of marks, shall be allowed for SC/ST/OBC and Persons With Disabilities) and with a valid fellowship from CSIR/UGC/ DBT(Category I)/ICMR/ BINC/ DST-Inspire.
2. Candidates with a post-graduate degree, who do not have individual fellowship but have qualified JGEEBILS exam conducted by NCBS/TIFR in December, 2022 will be eligible to apply. Candidates will be shortlisted based on JGEEBILS results by NCCS criteria for interview. NCCS’s decision in this regard will be final.
3. Candidates who are expected to complete their Post Graduate Degree by the end of July-2023 are also eligible to apply. Their selection will be provisional and subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria by the end of November, 2023.
4. Candidates who have qualified only for a Lectureship in CSIR-UGC (NET), DBT (Category II) and the “Project list of ICMR” are not eligible.

2. NCCS’s Ph.D. program is a full-time program. The selected candidates may have to stay on campus.
3. Hostel Accommodation, on Campus, is available on sharing basis, on first cum first-serve basis.
4. Other terms and conditions of the fellowship will be directed by the funding agency awarding the fellowship.
5. The upper age limit for JRF shall be below 28 years as on 1.8.2023, which is relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Women/PWD and 3 years in case of OBC candidates, or as applicable.
6. Fellowship will be activated as per the respective funding agencies’ guidelines on Direct Benefit Transfer basis. NCCS will not be responsible for providing fellowships except for selected JGEEBILS students.
7. Reservations for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS will be as per Government of India guidelines.
8. SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS candidates should also attach a true copy of the appropriate certificate along with the application and originals should be produced at the time of joining. SC/ST/OBC – Caste Certificate; OBC – Latest non-creamy layer certificate; PWD – PWD certificate; EWS – Income & Asset Certificate.
9. The last date for receipt of applications is 28th April 2023.
