Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a part of the inter-disciplinary Biotech Science Cluster at Faridabad in the National Capital Region. THSTI is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into products to improve human health. THSTI is a recognized R&D institute of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi offering doctoral programs in biomedical science research.
Applications are invited for the THSTI-JNU PhD program under biomedical research.
The thematic areas of ongoing research are –

- Maternal & Child Health
- Non-Communicable Disease
- Multidisciplinary Clinical & Translational Research
- Mathematical modeling of biological systems

A. Education Eligibility:
The candidate must fulfil at least one of the following criteria:
- Should have a Master’s degree in any branch of biomedical/ life sciences (including veterinary science, public health, pharmaceutical sciences), clinical sciences, bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, computer science or mathematics with at least 55% marks or its equivalent (e.g.: grade B in the UGC 7-point scale) or
- Should have MBBS/MD/MDS/MPH from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent or
- BE/B.Tech (computer science/ biotechnology/ biomedical engineering/ mechanical/ electronics/ electrical engineering)/B.Pharma from a recognized university institute with at least 55% marks.
B. Selection Procedure
- The candidate who has qualified any of the national level examination (mentioned below) will be directly called for the interview.
• JRF examination of CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (category I only), NBHM or AYUSH-NET which provides fellowship for their PhD program.
• DST INSPIRE Fellowship
• ICMR or CSIR SRF - Note: Candidates having AYUSH-NET fellowship will conduct research work in the fields related to AYUSH only.
- Students who have educational eligibility and not have their own fellowship need to undergo a written exam and only shortlisted candidates will be allowed to appear for the interview.
- The dates for the written exam and interview will be announced later.
- Final selection will be made based on the applicant’s performance in the interview and the list of selected candidates will be published on the THSTI’s website.
- The name of shortlisted candidates will be announced on our website.
- Fellowship as per the institutional policy will be awarded only to the selected students who don’t have their own fellowship.
Candidates appearing in the final qualifying examination may also apply. However, they will be required to show their original documents for essential educational qualifications at the time of interview for the PhD program.
A relaxation in marks/grades during Master’s Degree for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled or any other category will be applicable as per the UGC notification 2016 or subsequent notification in effect at the time of interview.
Application procedure: Candidates fulfilling the above eligibility criteria need to apply online by 1st January 2023 using the link https://thsti.in/application/jobs.php. Incomplete applications in any respect will be summarily rejected and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
Application fee: Non-refundable application fee of Rs. 236 for General and OBC candidates. SC/ST/Women/EWS/differently-abled candidates are exempted from payment of application fees.
No. of seats – 10 candidates may be selected for this session. (the number of positions may increase/decrease depending upon the requirement at the time of the interview).
Reservations – The reservation policy will be followed as per Government of India norms. SC/ ST/ OBC candidates are required to submit certificates in respect of their claims from authorized officers as notified by the Government for the purpose from time to time. The differently-abled (with a minimum of 40% disability) candidates are required to submit a certificate from authorized Medical Doctors/ Hospitals indicating the extent of physical disability
Academic program – Selected students will have to undergo PhD course work for 2 semesters. Those having successfully completed the PhD course work requirement will be recommended to JNU for PhD registration. For the award of the doctoral degree, the candidate will have to complete all the requirements as per the JNU rules.
Fees – Admission fees, annual fees, registration fees or any other fees levied by JNU shall be payable by the student.
Hostel – Selected students will have the option of shared hostel accommodation in lieu of their HRA.
