Name of the Project– An investigation of life history, breeding ecology and genomic consequences of adaptation to chronic protein deficiency using experimental evolution for live- yeast deprivation on Drosophila melanogaster populations

Funding Agency– SERB

Period of engagement – The initial contract will be for six months. After the first six months, the contract can be renewed for another six months or as long as the end of the project tenure. The remaining duration of the project is one year. Renewal and continuation will depend on satisfactory performance. Upon unsatisfactory performance, a candidate can be terminated with notice of one month.

Nature of engagement– Temporary

Interview – The date of the interview will be informed later to the shortlisted candidates through Email/phone. Due to unforeseen circumstances arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the interview will be conducted online via Google Meet/Zoom.

Job Requirement – The work will involve the maintenance of fruit flies and other insect populations in the lab. For this purpose, an assistant will have to do a variety of jobs including getting populations vials and cages ready, media preparation, and regular day-to-day maintenance of the flies. In addition, the assistant will also be helping in setting up experiments in the lab and assisting in data collection. Depending on the interest, he/she may also run independent experiments after consulting with the PI.

Essential Requirements–

• B.Sc. (or equivalent) in any field of Life Science / Environmental Science with a minimum of 60% in aggregate in the graduations (or equivalent CGPI score).
• Experience in working in any Biology lab.

Preferred requirements –

• M.Sc. (or equivalent) in any field of Life Science / Environmental Science with a minimum of 60% in aggregate in the graduations (or equivalent CGPI score).
• Experience in handling Ecology experiments
• Experience in handling Drosophila laboratory populations.

Fellowship/Remuneration per month (₹) – ₹ 20,000/- per month consolidated. Hostel accommodation may be available, subject to the availability of a room.
