Name of the Project –  “Assessment of egg parasitoid-host associations in the cultivated landscapes of West Bengal, through DNA metabarcoding and rearing, with special focus on Scelionidae (Hymenoptera: Insecta)”

Place of Posting – Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), HQ, Kolkata. However, frequent travel to

Pune will be essential since the molecular work will be under the supervision of the Co-PI of the project, Dr. K. P Dinesh , Scientist D, Western Regional Centre ZSI, Pune-411044, Maharashtra.

Duration – The project duration is 3 years. JRF appointment is Initially for one year but may be extended further based on satisfactory performance of the researcher and also funding availability.

General Instructions –

1. The above post is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project.
2. The upper age limit shall not be more than 28 years as of 08th February 2022. The age limit may be relaxed as per Government of India rules and regulations).
3. Candidates should email the duly filled-in application with attested scan copies of testimonials of qualifications, experience, date of birth etc. along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations.
4. The original certificates and other credentials will be verified at the time of joining and at the time of the verification of original documents (even after selection), if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to wilfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection and due action will be implemented.
5. The offer of appointment to the candidates will be on a purely contractual basis for one year and may be terminated any time if not found suitable.
6. The selected candidate needs to join immediately or at a short notice.

Fellowship – Rs. 31000/- + HRA*

*Fellowship will be as per the SERB rules and regulations. For NON-CSIR/UGC NET/JRF/GATE/ICAR, ICMR etc. candidates the fellowship will be@ Rs. 25000/- + HRA.

Educational Qualifications – M. Sc. in Zoology/ Entomology/ Life Sciences/or equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualifications – Relevant research experience in Zoology, taxonomy, GIS and molecular biology techniques, like DNA isolation, PCR amplification and also phylogenetic studies. Experience in field survey and field photography. Knowledge of the local language (Bengali) is desirable – since interaction with farmers and local people is essential.

Duties & Responsibilities –

1. Extensive and intensive field surveys across the cultivated landscapes of West Bengal to collect the host eggs, rearing a well as preservation for metabarcoding works.
2. Identification of parasitic Hymenoptera in general.
3. Metabarcoding of host eggs and DNA barcoding of host-reared parasitic wasps.
4. Description and Illustration of new taxa of parasitic wasps if any and generation of phylogenetic relationships.
