Title of the ICMR funded project – Molecular changes/damages, in the ocular surface associated stem cell populations, in response to, acute exposures to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) dose ranges and amelioration using novel Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) analogs from marine sources – an in vitro study
Brief description of the ICMR funded project –
- This project aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms related to damages to ocular surface stem cells caused by ultraviolet radiation.
- The project involves deciphering the answers to fundamental questions such as acute UV radiation, dose- responsive cellular/molecular behavior of OSCs from different developmental origins and reversal of such damages using EGCG analogs from marine sources.

Duration – 3 years
Monthly fellowship – Own fellowship for the CSIR/DBT/UGC-NET qualified candidates ICMR funded project fellowship as per ICMR norms
Infrastructural and research support – The institute has excellent infrastructure and resources to support research.
Tenure – Position is purely temporary and is co-terminus with the project. Extension without fellowship/partial University support or possible mentorship to obtain subsequent fellowship can be offered to the research fellows enrolled for PhD with due considerations for the completion of the PhD work.
Essential qualifications – Master degree in any branch of biological sciences with a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates who have qualified any national level eligibility test such as CSIR/DBT/UGC-NET will be preferred. Also, candidates who have prior experience of working in a research laboratory with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on research experience with mammalian cell culture/stem cell culture, flow cytometry and any of the molecular biology techniques need to apply. Ability to work independently, and as a team player; candidates with emotional grit and with research publication(s) will be given preference. An excellent written and verbal communication skill in English is essential
Work requirements – This project requires working in the cell culture and molecular biology laboratory for long hours. This work also requires working during the weekends for few hours for attending to the ongoing cell cultures
