Main responsibilities

• Supervise biochemistry laboratory operations to maintain quality and efficiency
• Participate in laboratory scheduling.
• Ensure the technical accuracy and quality, of laboratory results and final report generation.
• Participate in laboratory personnel training, reviews, and goal setting/personal growth, in particular for the biochemistry department.
• Report concerns of equipment failures and non-compliance of supplies and reagents.
• Participate directly in quality control procedures and documentation to support compliance timeliness and compliance with ISO 15189 guidelines.
• Participate as an interface for the laboratory client base, particularly related to communication of results.
• Participate in non-routine projects as delegated by the Lab director.
• Maintain a high degree of technical competence by reading scientific journals, attending professional workshops, and being aware of prenatal and newborn screening issues and trends.
• Provide guidance to Team leaders & Senior Technicians to ensure that laboratory processes are managed with the highest quality and efficiency.
• Request training and re-training for laboratory staff. Encourage increased working knowledge of procedures by laboratory staff.
• Periodically review and visually audit laboratory staff to ensure compliance with methods.
• Authority to write and deliver performance reviews in collaboration with the Management. Responsible for staff management to include appraisals, recruitment discipline, training and development of all staff.
• Alert Laboratory Management of need for repair services for malfunctioning equipment as well as request new equipment with the proper price quotations.
• Communicate directly with clients on laboratory results.
• Authority to approve final analytical reports and stop delivery of results based on abnormal values.
• Shall approve the QC results for processing and releasing the test results.
• Shall approve the Calibration data
• Shall work towards laboratory continual improvement.
• Shall validate the new tests before being introduced to the clinical testing

• Competency assessment of the technical staff

REQUIRED COMPETENCE

Education – M.B.B.S., M.D., / Ph.D. (in Biochemistry)

Special requirements\Skills\Attributes

• Responsible for TAT for patient reports.
• P&L of each department.
• Quality Metrics.
• New Products Initiation & Implementation.
• Experience in a NABL accredited laboratory.
