Integrated PhD Programme
IISER Kolkata invites applications from motivated students for admission to the Integrated PhD program for the Autumn 2019.
Qualification: Students with a B.Sc. /B.E./B.Tech. /M.B.B.S. or an equivalent degree from any recognized University/Institute/College can apply for the Integrated PhD Program in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
Minimum Qualifying marks: Candidates will need to secure at least 60 percent marks/equivalent grades in Honours/Major (if applicable), or 60 percent marks/equivalent grades in Aggregate (if Honours/Major isn’t applicable). Those that are appearing in the final examination of the degree course may also apply; for them, the eligibility marks are 60 percent depending on the marks obtained in the undergraduate examinations held until the date of submission of their application form.
Reservation Policy:
Reservations for applicants will be according
to Govt.of India criteria.The qualifying marks for SC/ST/OBC applicants are 50 percent according to Central Government relaxation policy.

Please be aware that applicants who have qualified in the following nationwide aptitude tests in the year 2019 only can apply for the program:
For Biological Sciences: JAM (Biology and Biotechnology) / JGEEBILS
For Chemical Sciences: JAM (Chemistry)
For Earth Sciences: (a) JAM (Geology) OR (b ) ) JAM Chemistry for research in Environmental Science OR (c) JAM Physics for study in Computational Minerology
For Mathematical Sciences: JAM (Mathematics)
For Physical Sciences: JAM (Physics)/JEST (Physics)
Subject combination at Undergraduate level:
Students applying for the Integrated PhD Program are needed to possess the following topic (s) in the undergraduate courses:
Integrated-Ph.D Programme | Major Subjects | Supporting Subjects |
Biological Sciences | Any branch of Biological Sciences | Chemistry at undergraduate level, and Mathematics in plus II or a course in mathematics AND/OR statistics at undergraduate level |
How to apply:
The applicants must open the link at the bottom of the page (Submit New Application) and correctly fill out the application form as instructed and submit. Applicants must save the correctly filled application form and have a print as the hard copy of the application.
Documents needed:
Selected applicants for interview must bring a printout of application form together with the necessary documents listed below in the time of interview:
- Attested copies of mark sheets and certificates of examinations starting from secondary examination.
- Original/Self Attested copy of this qualifying exam certification.
- Confidential recommendation letters of assessment (signed hardcopy) of this applicant from two teachers who have taught courses and would be able to evaluate the student as a possible research worker. The teachers must seal the envelopes and sign across the flaps.
- Proof of qualification in nationwide aptitude tests.
- Photo identity.
- Proof of age.
- Statement of Purpose mentioning research interest and potential supervisors (if any).
Selection procedure:
- Institute-level committee(s) will scrutinize each of the applications, and prepare a shortlist of candidates, who’ll be called for an interview.
- The Institute will eventually declare the list of chosen applicants on the Institute site. Students will be provided with a monthly fellowship.
- For applicants whose final exam marks aren’t available at the time of the interview, admission to this programme will be provisional. Such applicants would need to produce final mark sheet to the Academic Office within 60 days of the admission and having secured a minimum of 60 percent of marks/equivalent grades in Honours/Major (if applicable), or 60 percent marks/equivalent grades in aggregate (if Honours/Major isn’t applicable).
