Background: Forests are the world’s biggest repository of terrestrial biomass and biodiversity. Forests serve crucial ecological services, supporting the preservation of flora and fauna, and water sources. There’s a growing demand to develop programme on Forest and Conservation Biotechnology in Protected regions. This programme will address research gaps from ecology, genomics and biotechnology to enhance the growth and quality of forest for conservation and indicate ways for sustainable utilization in Addition to tools for reduction of climate change effect.

Purpose: Aiming to take scientific research & demonstration projects on Forest and Conservation Biotechnology in Protected Area Networks, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) invites project proposals built upon innovative ideas on following crucial aspects:

A) Studies on impacts of climate change on the forest ecology (like Phonological adjustments, changes in male/ female sex ratio in bigger plants, change in reproductive biology of plants) and development of mitigation and adaptation technologies to minimize mate change effect.
B) Modelling and management of invasive species in protected regions
C) Technologies for quantifying and maintaining ecosystem services from safe areas.
D) Utilization of biotechnological strategies on afforestation and regeneration of degraded protected forest area.
E) Development of technology for sustainable utilization of forest resources such as NTFPs.
F) Ability development and public outreach on significance of biotechnology for secure area forest resources management, conservation and diversity.

Eligibility: Researchers/ Scientists working in the Government Organizations/ Non-Profit Organizations, with solid technical & scientific backgrounds and Relevant books in suggested area may submit project proposal applications. Involvement of relevant stakeholders such as State Forest Departments Etc. is mandatory. Proposals, which can be interdisciplinary and integrative in Nature, and concentrate on a particular subject of Forest and Conservation Biotechnology in Protected Areas will be granted priority.

Mode of Submission:

Interested investigators should submit project Proposals online through DBT electronic project management platform ‘eProMis’ (http://dbtepromis.nic.in/Login.aspx) beneath the Programme ‘Forest and Conservation Biotechnology in Protected Areas’ clearly Stating it’s submitted under DBT call for proposal on ‘Forest and and Conservation Biotechnology in Protected Areas. Three hard copies of this Proposal (One original + two copies) should also be submitted by post to Dr. Onkar N. Tiwari, Scientist ‘D’, Room No. 506, 5 Th Floor, Block-3, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi- 110003.

Evaluation Criteria: Proposals will be judged according to technical and scientific Merit, with emphasis put on the delivery of a novel technological option at The conclusion of the project period addressing specific issue associated with secure Forest locations. Department also reserves the right to choose or reject the proposal depending on the priority and availability of capital.

  1. Good proposal. However, it requires lots of background information that can be applied on the ground. It is not easy to bring the actual players on the same platform. You may need a coordinator or a consultant to network the scientists and the foresters
