Invited Concept Ideas in the area of “Aquaculture & Marine Biotechnology”

Department of Biotechnology supports programmes in the area of Aquaculture & Marine Biotechnology, both of strategic and applied nature. This area is receiving greater attention for sustainable development and towards meeting the challenges of blue economy. The department from time to time identifies priorities in thrust areas of research. Scientists/ Researchers, who have visible and potential leads in the following areas, may submit their concept ideas:
- Development of high health brood-stock of indigenous fish/ shrimp
- Diversification in aquaculture using salt affected areas
- Novel bioactive molecules from marine environment
- Biotechnological interventions for sustainable aquaculture productivity increase
Identified theme of the proposal may be submitted from marine/ research/ academic institute working on basic and applied aspects, either by individuals or in a joint collaborative mode. It is desirable that before submission of the concept ideas investigator’s group should have preliminary leads available with them with the evidence of expertise in the proposed area alongwith the adequate infrastructure facilities in their institutes/ collaborating institutes to take up the proposed research work. Concept ideas receiving with Academia-Industry Partnership would be given preference.
The department would also consider supporting proposals on the
Centre of Excellence and Innovation in Aquaculture and Marine Biotechnology to the concepts submitted. The proposals in all the areas should be very clear with the objectives, timelines and quantifiable output/outcome.The concept ideas received will be examined by DBT. Short-listed concept ideas will be invited for submission of detail proposals for financial support as per the modalities of the Department.
