The LMB is one of the birthplaces of modern molecular biology and it continues to be a prolific source of new ideas, discoveries and inventions. As a leading international research centre, the LMB attracts some of the world’s best scientists. To date, the LMB’s scientists have earned ten Nobel Prizes, as well as numerous other prestigious scientific awards.
Programme Overview
Every year the LMB International PhD Programme gives 20-30 new graduate students from the UK and all over the world the opportunity to do cutting-edge research. At the LMB, we aim to train the scientific leaders of the future: we seek the best students, give them rewarding research projects and provide a supportive environment with access to world-class facilities and experts.
To join the LMB, graduate students need to register for their PhD with the Graduate School of Life Sciences at the University of Cambridge – leading to a University of Cambridge PhD degree. Graduate students registered with the University of Cambridge become a member of one of the University’s colleges. This relationship, between the LMB and the University of Cambridge, gives our graduate students membership of two of the world’s leading research institutions.

University of Cambridge entrance requirements
The LMB welcomes applications from highly qualified students of all nationalities. Competition for admission to our graduate programme is intense. Like all other departments in the Graduate School of Life Sciences at the University of Cambridge, we require all our graduate entrants to have:
