Available Projects
The IIT Bombay Research Internship Awards 2026–27 offers students an opportunity to work on research projects under faculty members across multiple departments and interdisciplinary centres at IIT Bombay. The available projects cover diverse areas such as biosciences, biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, cancer research, healthcare technologies, AI/ML and computational biology. Candidates are advised to carefully review the project title, research area and eligibility requirements before selecting a project that aligns with their academic background and interests.

Eligibility
- Should be in the second year of a Master’s program, or third/fourth year of a Bachelor’s program. Branch/discipline of study will be as per the project requirements specified by IIT Bombay Faculty (Internship Guide).
- Should be among the top 20% in the previous year in your discipline in the College/University/Institute. A certificate from the Principal in the prescribed format will have to be submitted at the time of applying.
- Duration of internship is four to six months between January and June.
- Should be a full-time student while applying and till the completion of the Internship.
- Should be able to work full-time for the Internship. Part-time internship is not allowed.
- Application once submitted can’t be edited or modified.
- Duplicate applications will be rejected.

- Fill in the mandatory fields to get registered.
- Login to fill the application form with your new username and password.
- Duplicate applications to be rejected. If any applicant is found to have applied for internship more than once using multiple email ids, their applications will be summarily rejected.
The online application requires:
- Statement of purpose (500 words) describing your interest in research and how diversity and this opportunity would advance your goals. Applications for internship must be accompanied by a statement of purpose answering questions such as: Why is an applicant interested in a particular project? What specific background, skills, and experience does an applicant have for the project? What is the applicant’s long term career plan? What role does this project play in it? What role does an internship at IITB play in the career plan? This list is only illustrative and the applicants are encouraged to think beyond these questions while writing their statement of purpose.
- Uploading Document : Which specifes that you are among the top 20% in the previous year in your discipline in the College / University / Institute. A certificate from the Principal (in the prescribed format) to this effect will have to be submitted at the time of applying.

- Shortlisted Candidate Details: 13 October 2026
- Dates for Interview: 26 October 2026 to 05 November 2026
- Results will be declared by: 10 December 2026
- Joining of Internship: 21 December 2026 to 20 January 2027 (Exact date to be discussed with concerned faculty In-Charge of each Intern)
- Duration of Internship: 4 to 6 months
