This recruitment will be handled by UNV India. This position is open for Indian nationals only.

Conditions of Service

A 12-month contract, with subsequent contract extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.

Travel to duty station (if applicable) and a Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of Rs. 42,473.67 (Rupees Forty Two Thousand Four Hundred Seventy-Three and Paise Sixty Seven only) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervisor of the State Project Director and State Nodal Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Support the LLPMU in implementation and monitoring of project activities at the landscape level According to the agreed work plan
  2. Mobilise Panchayati Raj Institutions, Line departments, CBOs and Communities for implementing activities as per the work plan
  3. Provide technical and capacity-building support to field partners for community-based sustainable natural resource management and mainstreaming biodiversity concerns in key production sectors
  4. Provide all project-related field support to State Project Director and State Nodal Officer and Project Management Units at national and state level
  5. Ensure proper coordination of co-finance activities in the field
  6. Provide quarterly, mid-term and yearly progress reports from the field according to the requirement of Project Management Unit at the national and state level.

Additional UN Volunteers are Necessary to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and Comprehension of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take an active part in UNV activities (for example in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action That They’re undertaking, such as participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Help with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the usage of online volunteering, or encourage applicable local individuals and organizations to utilize the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever possible.

Results/Expected Outputs:

  • Successful implementation and monitoring of project activities at the landscape level According to the agreed work plan
  • Panchayati Raj Institutions, Line departments, CBOs and Communities mobilised for implementing activities as per the work plan
  • Technical and capacity-building support provided to field partners for community-based sustainable natural resource management and mainstreaming biodiversity concerns into key production sectors wherever required
  • Report on co-financing activities being implemented at the landscape level submitted
  • Quarterly, mid-term and annual progress reports submitted from the field as per the requirement of Project Management Unit at national and state level

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Masters’ degree in Environment Science/ Natural Resource Management/Conservation science/ wildlife science or any other related field
  • At least two years of experience of working in development projects/biodiversity conservation/natural resource management in India
  • Experience of working together with governments, PRIs, government-financed projects, government missions, NGOs, Civil Society Organisations and disadvantaged communities
  • Experience of working with Central and/or State Governments could be an additional advantage.
