Govt MSc / MTech / BTech Biotech / Biochem / Bioinformatics and Life Sciences Junior Research Biologist positions vacant at SACON. Master’s degree with a life sciences background are eligible to apply for Junior Research Biologist positions. Post I

Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (01 No)

Project Name: Ecosystem requirements of hornbills and assess the status and distribution of select mammals in Anjunad and adjoining Landscape, Western Ghats.

Age: Below 28 years on the specified last date for receiving applications; the upper age limit can be relaxed up to five years in the case of candidates belonging to both SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category according to Central Government standards.

Duration: 1 year; the chosen candidate will be originally engaged for one year and his/her tenure could be extended for further period on the basis of their performance or requirement of this project.

Fellowship: Rs. 25,000/- per month and HRA as applicable

Essential Qualifications: Masters’ Degree in Zoology / Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Science/Ecology / Forestry/Environmental Science/ Environmental Management/ Life Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above

Desirable Qualifications: i) Knowledge of Wildlife Biology/Conservation Science and ii) Proficiency in spoken Malayalam/Tamil.

Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake field surveys and ecological studies as per the requirements of the project in the forests of Munnar landscape and adjoining areas in Kerala and assist the Principal Investigator in project activities.


Post II

Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (01 No)

Project Name: Characterization of community reserves and assessment of their conservation values in Meghalaya

Age: Below 28 years on the specified last date for receiving applications; the upper age limit can be relaxed up to five years in the case of candidates belonging to both SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category according to Central Government standards.

Duration: 1 year; the chosen candidate will be originally engaged for one year and his/her tenure could be extended for further period on the basis of their performance or requirement of this project.

Fellowship: Rs. 25,000/- per month and HRA as applicable

Essential Qualifications: Masters’ Degree in Zoology/ Forestry/Wildlife Sciences/ Wildlife Biology/Ecology/ Environmental Science/ Biodiversity & Conservation /Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Management/ Life Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above.

Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge/work experience on faunal studies especially mammals, camera trapping techniques, using GIS & RS spatial tools & programs and willingness to work in Meghalaya.

Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake faunal (mammals) studies as per the requirements of the project in different Community Reserves of Meghalaya and assist the Principal Investigator in other project activities.


Post III

Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (02 Nos)

Project Name: Assessing the distribution, population and habitat use of three endangered species to develop a conservation plan for species and their habitats

Age: Below 28 years on the specified last date for receiving applications; the upper age limit can be relaxed up to five years in the case of candidates belonging to both SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category according to Central Government standards.

Duration: 1 year; the chosen candidate will be originally engaged for one year and his/her tenure could be extended for further period on the basis of their performance or requirement of this project.

Fellowship: Rs. 25,000/- per month and HRA as applicable

Essential Qualifications: Masters’ Degree in Zoology/ Wildlife Biology/Life Sciences/Ecology/Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above.

Desirable Qualifications: Research experience in wildlife studies.

Description of Work: The selected candidate needs to work in remote areas of north-eastern and western India to collect ecological data on bird species.


Post IV

Name of the Position: Project Fellow (01 No)

Project Name: Assessing anthropogenic threats to large carnivore population in the Western Ghats part of Tamil Nadu, southern India.

Age: Below 28 years on the specified last date for receiving applications; the upper age limit can be relaxed up to five years in the case of candidates belonging to both SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category according to Central Government standards.

Duration: 3 years; the chosen candidate will be originally engaged for one year and his/her tenure could be extended for further period on the basis of their performance or requirement of this project.

Fellowship: Rs. 29,000/- per month and HRA as applicable

Essential Qualifications: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Wildlife Biology/Ecology/Zoology/Life Sciences/Environmental Science/ Biodiversity and Conservation related subjects from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above.

Desirable Qualifications: i) One year experience after PG Degree in field ecological studies that include habitat ecology/human-wildlife interactions/carnivore ecology, ii) familiarity with GIS tools and analytical techniques in writing scientific publications, iii) should be able to carry out rigorous field work independently and iv) Proficiency in English.

Description of Work: i)The selected candidate is expected to undertake extensive field surveys independently across human-wildlife interface areas of Tamil Nadu; ii) The candidate should be well versed in wildlife survey techniques with respect to human-wildlife interaction.


Post IV

Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist-Bioinformatics (1 No)

Project Name: Establishment of National Avian Forensic Laboratory at SACON for National Certification for Illegal Trafficking of Birds.

Age: Below 28 years on the specified last date for receiving applications; the upper age limit can be relaxed up to five years in the case of candidates belonging to both SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category according to Central Government standards.

Duration: 1 year; the chosen candidate will be originally engaged for one year and his/her tenure could be extended for further period on the basis of their performance or requirement of this project.

Fellowship: Rs. 25,000/- per month and HRA as applicable

Essential Qualifications: MSc/ BE/ BTech / MTech in Bioinformatics/ Computer Science/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Genetics/ Life Sciences with a minimum of 55% or more.

Desirable Qualifications: Must have working experience with Next Generation Sequencing datasets and well versed with Linux /bash and routine command line tools for large scale data processing. Must have a working knowledge of Perl, Python and/or R.

Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake next-generation sequencing, whole genome sequence assembly including tertiary analysis, maintain lab server and assist project Investigators in ongoing project activities.

  • The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on the walk-in-interview to be held at SACON, Moongilpallam, Anaikatty, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on 25.04.2019. Candidates must report to the venue at 09.00 am on the interview day.
