National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) was conceived and set up in 1988 by the late Mr. J. R. D. Tata, who had sought to create an institution to conduct advanced multidisciplinary research. Housed in a scenic green campus at Bangalore, the Institute functions as a forum to bring together people from diverse intellectual backgrounds, in the natural and life sciences, humanities, social sciences, and conflict and security studies. About the Project:
The project aims to understand the drivers of human primate conflict in India, more especially factors that cause the initiation of conflict, both the spatial and temporal patterns of continuing conflict, best practices to mitigate conflict and human social factors that encourage coexistence between humans and primates.
Title of Position: Research Associate -I
Job Description: The Research Associate will design, conduct and analyze studies on primate ecology and behaviour and human-primate interactions, and supervise, mentor and train research fellows and interns working in the project. Moreover, the Research Associate will also assist with the implementation of conflict mitigation strategies as well as the publication of results from the project.
i. Degrees: The candidate should have a PhD degree in Ecology/Environmental Science /Wildlife Biology or a related area or ought to have submitted his/her PhD thesis in any of these areas.
ii. Research experiences: Experience in studying primate behaviour would be desirable.
iii. Past work experience: Familiarity with R and knowledge of applied ecological Statistics and/or primate conflict mitigation strategies would be desired.
