Postdoc in Structural Biology and Biophysics @ University of Copenhagen
International candidates are encouraged to apply for the Postdoc in Structural Biology and Biophysics at Department of Biology, Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen. The University of Copenhagen has announced the call for applications for Postdoc in Structural Biology and Biophysics Check out all of the details on the same below:
This job expires in :
Description of this scientific environment:
The most important focus of the job in the host lab is to understand protein folding and misfolding in the endoplasmic reticulum of mammalian cells. We utilize an assortment of biochemical and cell biological techniques, supported by molecular biology and bioinformatics.
Description of the scientific environment:
The position is in Kaare Teilum’s group at the Structural Biology and NMR Laboratory, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. The Structural Biology and NMR Laboratory provides a strong, international environment for research in the structure, function and dynamics of biological macromolecules. The laboratory is host for three high-field NMR spectrometers and currently employs about 20 PhD students and postdocs as well as a larger number of undergraduate students and guests. The research in the laboratory is highly interdisciplinary ranging from molecular cell biology to advanced biophysics and computational biology.
The overall aim of the project is to understand the molecular properties of Gag-like proteins that have evolved from ancestral Gag proteins introduced into the human genome by retroviral infections that occurred at an early stage in evolution around the time where the vertebrates and invertebrates diverged. Whereas many of the Gag-like proteins have been studied in some detail at the molecular and cell biology levels they have largely escaped any structural analysis. A molecular description of the properties of these proteins will thus provide a new foundation for our understanding of the function of these proteins.
The successful candidate must have a strong background in protein science and structural biology. Prior experience with protein production for biophysical and structural analysis is a requirement. It is also a requirement to have experience with protein NMR spectroscopy and/or X-ray crystallography. It is an advantage to have experience in kinetic analysis of the formation of supramolecular assemblies.
Further information on the Department is linked at https://www.science.ku.dk/english/about-the-faculty/organisation/. Inquiries about the position can be made to Kaare Teilum ([email protected]).
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
We will use a shortlisting procedure in the evaluation. An assessment committee will be appointed to evaluate the shortlisted applications, and the remaining applicants will be notified that their applications will not be evaluated further. The shortlisted applicants will be notified of the composition of the committee and the final selection of a successful candidate will be made by the Head of Department, based on the recommendations of the assessment committee.
Terms of job:
- The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
- Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
- The starting salary is currently up to DKK 424.526 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 72.594). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
The application, in English, must be submitted electronically by clicking APPLY NOW below. The application should include the items below, and applications that do not follow these guidelines may not be evaluated.
- A cover letter (max. 1 page) describing your background, personal qualities, research interests and reasons for applying specifically to this position
- Curriculum vitae (max. 5 pages)
- List of peer-reviewed publications. You may include preprints, papers that have been accepted for publication or are in review
- Diplomas (Master and PhD degree or equivalent)
- Contact details of 1-2 persons for references and a very brief description of your relationship with them. You should not attach reference letters
The deadline for applications is 1 November 2018, 23:59 GMT +1.
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Interview Committee.
