Position description: Senior Research Fellow in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology

Southern Cross Plant Science (SCPS) research centre carries out research focused on the genetics, genomics and phytochemistry underpinning selection, cultivation and utilisation of plants.
Based at the lovely Lismore campus, located in the lively Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, SCPS enjoys an global reputation for research excellence in the fields of crop production and forestry, plays an integral role in offering the personal and community sector with a range of phytochemical analytical solutions.
The Lismore campus is set on over 75 hectares of lush landscaped gardens and rainforest paths. Having a population of about 45,000, Lismore is the business and government centre of the area and enjoys all of the amenities you’d expect of a lively, regional town.
Concerning the Function:
Working together with the Director, Southern Cross Plant Science, Director for the Centre of Organics Research, along with other senior study colleagues, that this role includes primary responsibility for conducting research in computational biology and bioinformatics strategies, especially as it applies to plant comparative genomic investigation, and contributing to the evolution of global excellent research programs and endeavors.
As senior research workers, this job will be responsible for preparing and publishing high quality refereed research publications, creating proposals, and procuring external project financing.
Whilst study concentrated, this role will also result in the development of curriculum and teaching in the region of bioinformatics and computational biology.
The appointee will have a PhD in a related area, a proven history in bioinformatics research and development and peer-reviewed publications; some profound understanding of genomics and/or metabolomics and expertise in next-generations sequencing information and/or transcriptome sequencing; strong communication abilities and higher degree or numeracy and precision in the context of computational biology.
