Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is an institution of national significance with the principal focus of supplying world-class education and training, and to conduct innovative research at the interface of various areas to create premium quality human resource in the region of biotechnology. RCB is offering interdisciplinary doctoral programmes on Biostatistics and Bioinformatics in partnership with other associations by making a virtual faculty pool. These programs will be encouraged through a cooperation with the worldwide pharmaceutical giant, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals India Private Ltd. (GSK) and therefore are subject to RCB statutes, ordinances and regulations.

Eligibility for entry: To the program on Biostatistics, the candidate should have a first-class (60% marks or more) Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics. For the program on Bioinformatics, the candidate has to have a first-class (60% marks or more) Master’s degree in Computer Science or Bioinformatics.  Those appearing in the last examination and having secured at least 60 percent marks an average in most exams held throughout the Master’s degree programme are eligible to apply. But, students will be allowed to join the program just on the production of first-class Master’s degree certification.

Selection process of entry and stipend: Applicants will need to appear for a nationally-open written exam in RCB. Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed for the final choice. Selected students will get a consolidated stipend of Rs. 45000 a month for the initial 2 years of this program and Rs. 50000 for the subsequent 3 years. The stipend will be subject to taxation according to Govt. Continuation of stipend is subject to satisfactory progress made by the pupil to be appraised yearly.  A total of four students could be chosen annually to those programs.

Course work:

Biostatistics programme: In the very first year of this programme (split into two semesters), the students can experience rigorous coursework in accordance with the schedule below. The classes comprise topics in fundamental Biology, advanced Statistics, Computer Programming and Applications, and Data Analyses. Throughout the coursework, the candidates will spend the first six months at RCB for courses mostly on Biology, and also the subsequent six months at NIBMG for lessons on Statistics. This will be accompanied with a three-months statistical internship in GSK’s Clinical development operations centre in Bengaluru. Bioinformatics program: At the very first year of this program, the students will experience rigorous Registration as listed under. Additional courses in biological sciences might be prescribed for its computer science scholars. How to Apply:

Interested students can apply online by paying the prescribed application fee of Rs. 1000.  The final date of application is currently 20-July-2018. Eligible applicants will be invited for a written exam and interview on 27th and/or 28th July 2018 in RCB at Faridabad. Selected students have to join the program on August 1, 2018.
