Obligations and Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of the State Nodal Officer, direct oversight of the Divisional Forest Officer/District Collector (coordination with the National Project Management Unit,/ Programme Manager, UNDP, if required), the UN Volunteer will tackle the following tasks:

  • Support the National staff, State Project Officer and LLPMU staff in preparation of this yearly Workplans (AWPs) particularly in design of their actions to be undertaken in the landscape level w.r.t the project results frame and monitoring tools.
  • Support the group in project execution in the landscape level especially in the successful and excellent delivery of actions associated with biodiversity conservation and sustainable all-natural resource management under the accepted AWP.
  • Support the staff in tracking and analysis of the project activities in the landscape level.
  • Gather and compile data required for planning and submission of Project Implementation Reviews, Quarterly Progress Reports, Annual Progress Reports as well as other pertinent progress reports.
  • Maintain close coordination with landscape and state level government agencies and relevant line departments, civil society associations, academic and research institutions, community level institution and local communities to construct convergence of resources and programmes in execution of the project actions.
  • Support the staff in coordinating community level meetings, trainings and workshops and exposure visits.
  • Mobilize/capacitate/strengthen local communities, partners and organizations to biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.
    Support linking of sectoral program recommendations with numerous policies, programmes and strategies of the government particularly in the context of conservation and leveraging funds for achieving the results of this project.
  • Conduct and encourage actions which will bring about women empowerment and conservation of natural resources from the job landscape.
  • Plan community-based renewable resource governance systems and exhibit exactly the identical
  • Assist in resource mobilisation by creating identifying or proposals fund raising opportunities for sub-projects for biodiversity conservation and sustainable all-natural resource management from the project state.
  • Support consultants in conducting mid-term and terminal examination of this job.

Additionally UN Volunteers are needed to:

  • Strengthen their understanding and comprehension of the idea of volunteerism by studying relevant UNV and outside publications and take active role in UNV actions (for example in events which mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be familiar with and build conventional and/or local kinds of volunteerism from the host nation;
  • Reflect on the form and caliber of voluntary activity they’re undertaking, such as involvement in continuing reflection actions;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them to get UNV publications/websites, newsletters, media releases, etc..
  • Help with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Boost or counsel local teams in the usage of online volunteering, or promote applicable regional people and organizations to utilize the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Outputs:

  • Local communities, partners and organizations mobilized, capacitated and fortified for biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.
  • Sectoral plan recommendations connected with numerous policies, programmes and strategies of the government particularly in the context of conservation and executed through leveraging and convergence of both co-finance in job locations.

Required Skills and Expertise:

  • Master’s Degree in the field of Environmental Sciences/Biodiversity Conservation/Wildlife Sciences/Natural Resource Management or related discipline

  • Familiarity with all the working environment and professional standards of global organizations.
  • At least three years’ experience in execution of community based conservation and natural resource management projects, notably in Himalayan landscapes.
  • Experience of working with the government and civil society associations in the conservation industry
  • Proficiency in English Bhutia and Lepcha (local languages) is vital.
