W A L K – I N – I N T E R V I E W for contractual engagement of
Three Project Biologists and One Project Assistant (GIS)

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. WII invites application for Walk-in-interview for engaging three Project Biologists and one Project Assistant (GIS) in the project entitled ‘Monitoring System for Tigers–Intensive Patrolling and Ecological Status (M-STrIPES)’ purely on contractual basis. The contract engagement will be for a period of one year initially which may be extended for further period depending upon the exigencies of work at sole discretion of the Institute and satisfactory performance of the engagee.

Position I

Job Title – Project Biologist

No.of.Posts – 3

Duration – One Year (initially), subjected to be extended

Consolidated Emoluments – Rs. 25,000/- + HRA

Age – Not exceeding 35 years on the date of interview


  • Essential – Post graduate degree in Zoology/Life Science/Wildlife Science/Botany/Forestry/Environmental Science with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized university.
  • Desirable – Candidates having field experience in conducting ecological research and monitoring will be given preference. Experience in animal abundance estimation, analytical skills and competency in ecological software is desirable.

Job Description:

The research fellow is expected to work in Tiger Reserves in helping implement M-STrIPES (Monitoring System for Tigers: Intensive Patrolling and Ecological Status) in collaboration with the forest departments. The program M-STrIPES involves generating GPS based patrolling data for protecting tigers and their habitat and regular ecological status monitoring using camera traps, transect surveys, track plots and occupancy surveys. This information is then to be analyzed in a software system dedicated for this purpose to generate periodic reports to assist management and protection of Tiger Reserves.

The job requires extensive traveling to forest interiors, wildlife areas and arduous terrains across India for longer durations.

Position II

Job Title – Project Assistant

No.of.Posts – 1

Duration – One Year (initially), subjected to be extended

Consolidated Emoluments – Rs. 20,000/- + HRA

Age – Not exceeding 32 years on the date of interview


  • Essential – Post Graduate in Science/Life Science / Environmental Science/Applied Science/Remote Sensing and GIS/M.A Geography
  • Desirable – Experience in Remote Sensing and GIS, competency in Arc GIS, ERDAS IMAGINE and other Open Source Software (Q GIS etc.) shall be given preference. One year diploma degree on GIS / Remote Sensing / Geo Informatics or a minimum of 1 (one) year experience of working on projects related to GIS and Remote Sensing after B.Tech / Master degree is desirable.

Job Description:

  • The job primarily involves handling, processing and analyses of large scale spatial data. In particular, the responsibilities would be –
  • Data processing, digitization, feature extraction, and analysis within GIS platform.
  • Maintenance of spatial data, end user support and
  • Generation of maps and providing other GIS reports and information.

Some other specific activities envisaged for the selected candidates for both the positions are: a. carry out field data collection, data analysis, synthesis, and report writing, b. carry out specific tasks/ activities relevant to project components assigned and submit periodic reports on such tasks, c. contribute and participate in planning/organization/conduct of field level training workshops, d. carry out any other work related to the project assigned by the project investigators and e. Should be prepared to travel quite extensively and work in the remote field conditions for longer duration.

  1. The candidate should report by 0930 hrs for scrutiny of documents on 31st May, 2017 followed by an Interview on the same day at 1100 hrs. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
  2. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in application with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications research experience, Ph.D thesis along with certificate of extracurricular activities, date of birth, mark sheets of all examinations etc. All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of registration for necessary verification.
  3. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
