The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, one of the oldest, non-sectarian philanthropic organisations in India, was established in 1932 by Sir Dorabji Tata with the prime purpose of encouraging learning and research in the country, of meeting costs of relief during crises and calamities and of carrying out worthwhile charitable activities.

The Trust’s vision of constructive philanthropy has been sensitive to the fast-growing needs of a developing nation, while the work initiated by it holds contemporary relevance as it continues to support innovative enterprises in development.

This Scheme is instituted by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT) to recognize and reward young Indian scientists with outstanding track record in biological sciences, a deep commitment to find innovative solutions to major problems related to human diseases and potential for high quality research. Applicants should have publications in well recognized peer reviewed journals of repute and contributed to knowledge generation that has created significant impact in the field of translational possibilities. The applicant should also highlight prestigious award(s) and other recognitions such as Award(s) of major academies / societies.

ELIGIBILITY:
i)The Award is open to Indian Nationals, residing in India, who are below the age of 40 years.
ii)The applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in any Biological Science or a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology related areas. The applicant must have at least 4 years’ professional experience in the specific area after obtaining the above degree.
iii)The candidate must have a regular position in a University / Organization / Institute and should be engaged in research and development. Applicants currently working abroad may apply provided that they have confirmed placement in an Institute in India. The awardee will be eligible for regular research grants through extramural and other research schemes of various S & T agencies of the Government of India.

How To Apply: NINE SETS (original application + eight copies) of the application must be submitted. Please note that the application sets should only be corner-stapled and SHOULD NOT BE BOUND IN ANY OTHER MANNER. The application should be addressed to The Secretary, Lady Tata Memorial Trust, Bombay House, 24 Homi Mody Street, Mumbai 400 001, so as to reach him not later than 1st February 2010.

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the J. N. TATA ENDOWMENT LOAN SCHOLARSHIPS for the academic year 2010-2011 for higher studies abroad in all disciplines and subjects. Selected scholars may also qualify for gift awards.

I) Indian nationals; and
II) (a) graduates of a recognised Indian university with a consistently good academic record; or
(b) students in the final year of the degree course; or
(c) mid-career professionals upto the age of 45 years, planning to go abroad for further research, specialisation ortraining

At the time of submitting the completed applications, candidates need not have the admission / award letters from the universities to which they have applied for the academic year 2010-2011.

HOW TO APPLY?
Prescribed application forms will be available from the Administrative Office of the Endowment at Mulla House, 51 M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai 400 001 from
December 7, 2009 to February 15,2010.
