Vasantdada Sugar Institute | VSI Pune
Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI) formerly known as Deccan Sugar Institute, is an autonomous body which is a ‘Registered Society’ registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. VSI has been set up to serve the Sugar Industry in India in general and in Maharashtra State in particular. Established by the sugarcane grower members of the co-operative sugar factories in Maharashtra State with an active and generous support of Government of Maharashtra State, perhaps it is the only organization of its kind in the World.
Mission
VSI’s mission as a R&D Organization is to bring about improvement in the socio-economic status of sugarcane grower farmers through research by providing to them new and cutting edge technologies by undertaking or helping to carry on research and other scientific work in connection with the trade or industry related to sugarcane/ sugarbeet or other sugar bearing plants, sugar by-products and allied industries in India.
Services offered
The organization offers excellent advisory, extension and consultancy services. As a friend of and philosopher to the Sugar Industry, VSI
- Provides technical consultancy in the fields of crop production, crop protection and crop improvement..
- Prepares project reports on erection of new plants and on modernization and expansion of the existing units.
- Undertakes technical and performance evaluation of mills.
- Analyses samples of sugar, sugarhouse products, alcohol and liquors, process chemicals, soil, water, effluents and also tests drip irrigation materials.
Research & Developments
VSI’s Research and Development program (R&D) aims at assessing and meeting current as well as future needs of the Sugar Industry in the context of prevailing socio-economic conditions of the country. In ultimate analysis it provides qualitative and quantitative data for more efficient use in the Sugar Industry of men, machine and material all of which cost money.
