Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow (India) is a University established under State Act in 1983. The Institute is located on a sprawling 550 acres residential campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km away from the main city. The institute offers its own degrees, which are duly recognized by the Medical Council of India. The Institute is rated amongst the top medical institutions in the country, delivering state-of-art tertiary medical care, super-specialty teaching, training and research. COURSES
The Institute offers well-established ongoing DM/MCh/PDF/PDCC/and Senior Residency (Hospital Services) training programs in various specialties. These programs are immensely popular and attract large number of candidates from all over the country.Admissions are made twice a year (January and July) depending upon availability of seats. Selection is made on the basis of all-India examination.For Life Science people PhD courses in Immunology, Medical Genetics, Microbiology, Neurology, Nuclear Medicine, Pathology and Transfusion Medicine is available.
DEPARTMENTS
Department of Immunology : The Department of Immunology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences have been fortunate to have this specialty at the Institute since its inception. This is a unique centre which combines research, teaching and patient service in this niche area of medicine. And is the only such department in the country. The department has gained widespread recognition since its establishment in 1987 and trained a large number of young physicians who are now spreading the discipline to all parts of the country.
Department of Medical Genetics : PhD courses are offered focussing on newly emerging areas of medical Biotechnology including DNA diagnostics and DNA therapeutics molecular medicine.
Department of Microbiology : Area of interest include Cytomegalovirus, Campylobacter and Helicobacter infections ,Giardiasis,Enteroviruses,Tuberculosis etc.
Department of Nuclear Medicine : PhD in Nuclear Medicine focussing on high dose and low dose radionuclide therapy, in-house preparation of radiopharmaceuticals, radiation safety services to all the departments using radiation generating machines or radioactive sources are offered.
