The National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bangalore

The National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology (NIANP) was established on 24th November 1995 at Bangalore under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The Institute is mandated to conduct basic and fundamental research with respect to animal feed resource management using physiological-nutritional approaches to improve animal productivity and profitability of livestock farmers.

Objectives of the Istitute

  • To identify and develop newer commercially exploitable feed resources in terms of quality and safety for economic feeding.
  • To develop rapid and accurate analytical techniques for quality and safety of feeds.
  • To develop technologies to improve the quality and economical utilization of poor quality roughages.
  • To unravel the basic animal nutrition principles utilizing the physiological techniques related with animal production including reproduction.
  • To improve environment friendly sustainable livestock feeding systems in different agro-climatic regions of the country.
  • To develop specialized training programmes for up-gradation of manpower in animal nutrition and physiology for different parts of the country.
  • To coordinate the animal nutrition and physiology research with animal sciences and other institutes.
  • To develop a national referral laboratory for feed quality and safety.
