I attened the JNCASR interview yesterday in Benguluru
the following ques are asked in the interview, i was not selected
I am just sharing these questions so that it will be helpful for some of you
i can understand that no one can tell us how to prepare for interviews, whats questions they will ask etc, i faced the similar problem so ..............
anyway the questions are

They started with my project related ques by Udaykumar Ranga
Professor (working on HIV)
What is CD14
How many forms of CD14 are there?
What happens if sCD14 increases? Guess it?

General questions
Why a protein should be degraded? ( my ans was not specific, and it seems like they were not satisfied with my ans)
What is a proteasome?
Next questions started by  Namita Surolia
Professor- Dean Fellowships & Extension (Working on Malaria)
What are the subunit components of proteasome? (They are expecting me to tell the subunit composition of the complexes as I replied that proteasomes consist of two 19s caps and a 20s core in-between two 19s cap structures to the previous question)
What is ubiquitin?
What are its components? (I am able to tell only 2 components, I forgot one of the components)
What are lysosomes? (I replied enzymes involved in it and their role etc)
Where proteins are degraded? Whether in lysosomes or proteasomes? (I replied external endocyotosed particles are degraded in lysosomes whereas cytosolic proteins are usually degraded in proteasomes)

Next questions started by Anuranjan Anand
Professor (Molecular genetics)
Where does replication takes place?
Where does transcription takes place?
Where does splicing takes place?
Where does recombination takes place?
They asked me to draw the “meiotic chromosomes segregation patter in a simpler way without drawing any cell structures etc) (I lost the impression here as I dint understand well what he is asking L, I tried to draw a couple of images but he asked to stop decorating all the things and sit down)

And my final ques was asked by Kaustuv Sanyal
Associate Professor ( Chromosomal sggregation)
Name any one protein involved in replication but not segregation and also name any one protein involved in segregation but not replication
(I dint ans this que well)

And the other professor Tapas K Kundu didn’t ask anything , he just sat there silently, even he dint ask questions anyone ( I guess his job is to interpret the skills of the fellow answering the questions ?)

thanks

thanks for the info. Well you did answer pretty well..don't know what..majority of the cases i think there's a lot of lobbying going round. i mean i went to iisc inteviews, answered pretty well..yet was not selected for the 2nd round of interviews. there toh they had 5-7 min of casual chitchat and then went on to ask simple stuffs like on pI, structure of amino acids, about how to identify promoter from a number of gene sements, NLS, protein structure, post translational modifications, gene structure etc..
also at NII, they asked me about my project, a few questions on allosteric enzymes, again proteins and transgene. don't know what makes these folks satisfied. i am so disapointed that i have decided that i will not go for BARC interviews. there also i heard there is big time lobbying.
and one more thing, because i am 2011 passout without CSIR, everyone asked me what were you doing all this while the entire one year, why didn't you get CSIR and stuffs..may be that went against me.
Although i did hear that some CSIR toppers including rank 2 did not clear iisc first rounds. so who knows what happens a these interviews. all the best folks for CSIR
