DBT sponsored Training Programme "Whole genome sequencing and annotation" by IISR
DBT sponsored Training Programme
"Whole genome sequencing and annotation"
February 21st - 25th, 2012
Organized by
Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode
Overview : Bioinformatics will be at the core of biology in 21st century. Advances in Bioinformatics offer unprecendented opportunities for biologists to rapidly collect and analyze enormous amounts of data, much of which are now stored in databanks and databases. Complex, computationally intensive biological problems are now being addressed and promise to significantly advance our understanding of biology. Full genome sequencing also known as Whole Genome Sequencing, complete genome sequencing is a laboratory process that determines the complete DNA sequence of an organism's genome at a single time. The complete genome of organism was constructed by Next Generation Sequencing method-II-lumina-Solexa 1 G Generic Analyzer. Whole genome sequencing helps in understanding of the molecular basis in species by assisting the isolation of novel genes, as well as by helping to identify functional aspect of genes. Complementary tools that can be used for the assemebly of genomes from next generation sequence data.
After assembly the next step is to annotate the genome to assign putative functions to the genes. it involves active participation of number of different organization in Bioinformatics community. it requires hours to annotate an entire genome. Creating a community of individuals who can contribute to the annotation process. The session will consist of an introduction to both programs, followed by an exercise using short and long read data. This short term training will provide vital information on the latest research and technology developments and will offer clean competitive benefits of your research.
