PhD Position (Biochemistry / Biophysics / Biotechnology) at University of Wurzburg, Germany
The Rudolf Virchow Center / DFG Research Center for Experimental Biomedicine of the University of Würzburg invites to apply for a PhD position (Biochemistry / Biophysics / Biotechnology) in the field of (surface) biochemistry and fluorescence imaging.
Research Description : Our research group aims for pushing fluorescence techniques beyond their usual limits including the development of suitable probes. Recently, we found that laser light can cause the reversible dissociation of fluorescently labeled proteins from their ligands and thus can be used to selectively ‘unbind’ fluorescently labeled proteins in a non-invasive fashion. The underlying molecular mechanisms underlying photounbinding is largely unknown.
Objective : The main goal of the project is to determine inter- and intramolecular transitions that play a role in the dissociation of the molecular complex. Furthermore, we would like to explore biomedical and/or biochemical applications where such light induced protein dissociation can be used as a tool. The interdisciplinary project involves protein biochemistry, surface immobilization strategies and fluorescence imaging.
What we seek : We are particularly interested in candidates with enthusiasm for emerging technologies. Ideally, the candidate has (basic) experience in protein purification, surface biochemistry and/or confocal fluorescence imaging. Standard computer and programming skills are mandatory.
