PhD positions at Institute of Experimental Internal Medicine, Otto von Guericke University, Magdeburg, Saxony-anhalt, Germany

Project Description : The project is based on recent discoveries about the control of the NF-kB signal transmission by the multiprotein complex COP9 signalosome (CSN) and associated deubiquitinylases (DUBS). The CSN represents an integrating signaling platform involved in a variety of cellular processes, e.g. cell cycle, inflammation, differentiation and development.

The research program of the institute encompasses scientific projects on the regulation of the NF-kB signal transduction in the pathophysiology of inflammation and tumor biology (e.g. differentiation and cell cycle control). Here, the molecular and cell biological mechanisms of the intracellular signal transmission are of special interest. The institute allows an internationally competitive research by providing state of the art technologies in protein analysis, mass spectrometry and microscopy.

Desirable : The successful applicants will define the role of novel control mechanisms by integrating techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology.

Note : The institute coordinates and participates in a variety of coordinated programs funded by the German Research Foundation (GRK1167, SFB854, SFB779, SPP1365 and FOR521), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (SysTec) and the European Union (Marie Curie Research Training Network). Further, the institute is member of the interdisciplinary “Research Center Dynamic Systems: Biosystems Engineering (CDS)” funded by the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt within the “Excellence Program” and the “Magdeburg Center of Systems Biology (MaCS)” funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the „FORSYS“ program “Research Units in Systems Biology”.
