PhD position in cell biology : Rennes, France
A fully funded Ph.D. position is available starting in Fall 2012 in the group of Dr. Damien Coudreuse at the Institute of Genetics and Development of Rennes (IGDR), France (http:// igdr.univ-rennes1.fr/english/). The laboratory uses the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe as a model system to investigate core principles in cell cycle control and in the evolution of this essential process.
Techniques & Methodology : Our approach relies on a combination of synthetic biology, genetics and live imaging of cells grown in microfluidic devices. We are seeking candidates to conduct a project that will focus on understanding the rationale behind the evolution of the complex cell cycle regulation in eukaryotic cells, comparing both the short and long-term behaviors of cells operating with a wide range of synthetic cell cycle modules. Previous experience in molecular biology and with genetic models, in particular with yeast, is helpful but not mandatory.
About Centre : The IGDR is the primary center for fundamental biological research in Rennes and in the Brittany region. It is located on the campus of the School of Medicine of the University of Rennes 1. Research at the IGDR covers a wide range of subjects in the field of Cell Biology, taking advantage of most classical model systems while strongly promoting interdisciplinary approaches. With 20 teams and approximately 200 researchers with international backgrounds, the IGDR provides a dynamic and interactive scientific environment.
City Description : Rennes is the capital of Brittany, in northwestern France, with easy and direct access to Paris and Charles de Gaulle Airport (2h30 by train). Its tradition for cultural, musical and artistic events, as well as the presence of a large population of students, its close proximity to the coast, and the more provincial pace of the city make it a very welcoming and pleasant place to live.
Candidates should contact Dr. Damien Coudreuse at damien.coudreuse@univ-rennes1.fr and send a letter describing your interest in this research, a Curriculum Vitae and contact information for two references.
Deadline : 24.08.12
