About Bioinformatics Center : Bioinformatics Center is one of the Sub-DIC of DBT, Govt. of India, under BTISNET program. Centre was established under the shed of Department of Biotechnology, Barkatullah University Bhopal during the year 2002-03. Center has organized 19 workshops in Bioinformatics. More than 70 students from various colleges and institutes of all over India have done dissertation/project works in different areas of Bioinformatics for 3 to 6 months. Center is also involved in Bioinformatics research and published number of papers and abstracts. Students, research scholars and faculties are provided with infrastructure like Internet, Computer and guideline on computational techniques. Centre has strong enough computation facility and high speed Internet connection. 

Scope of the Topic : Computer and computational techniques is an integral part of today’s teaching and research. Bioinformatics a new discipline formed to provide new direction to advanced teaching, training and research in the field of life sciences. It has become a part of syllabus of many Life Science streams.This hand on training is aimed to decipher the practical hands on Bioinformatics to the teachers of life sciences, pharmacy, medical, computer science and IT streams.

1 Bioinformatics: Introduction, Area, Scope and Limitations.
2 Biological database and data formats
3 Data retrieval search engines.
4 Sequence comparison and analysis.
5 Sequence homology searching: BLAST & FASTA.
6 Data mining techniques.
7 Phylogenetic analysis.
8 Molecular structure learning.
9 Visualization tools and techniques.
10 Molecular dynamics and modeling

Methodology : Lecture, Demonstrations, Practical’s and evaluations 
Level of Participants : Teachers teaching at graduate and under graduate level students in Life Science stream, computer science, Information technology, Pharmacy, Medical sciences 
Prerequisites : Computer and Internet surfing 
Number of Participants : 20
Registration Fee : Rs. 1000
Mode of Fees submission : Demand Draft of issued by any Nationalized Bank in favor of “Registrar, Barkatullah University Bhopal”, payable at “Bhopal” should be submitted along with completely filled registration form, at Center’s Address.

Applications will be scrutinized and selection confirmation will be send to participants. Final selection will be on the basis of fee submission
