The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Agriculture in 1947 became a member of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) family in 1967. The headquarters was shifted from Mandapam Camp to Cochin in 1971.
Mandate: To undertake basic, strategic and applied research in marine fisheries and mariculture. To monitor and assess the fisheries resources of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and to understand the stock and its dynamics in relation to environment and human interventions To develop and commercialize hatchery and production system technologies for finfish, shellfish and other commercial marine organisms in coastal and open seas.

Name of the Project: Development of species specific DNA markers in economically important shellfish species green mussel (Perna viridis) and edible oyster (Crassostrea madrasensis)

Age limit: 35 years (age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and Women and 3 years for OBC)
Educational qualification Essential: Graduation in Biotechnology/Fisheries Sciences/Zoology with hands on experience in molecular biology.
Desirable: Working experience in Laboratory techniques in Biotechnology.
Nature and duration of the Post: Purely temporary and will end with the termination of the project.
Emoluments: Rs.4,000 p.m. +HRA 20% for first 2 years Rs.5,000 pm +20% HRA for 3rd year
