Workplace:       The Institute of Environmental Medicine
Form of employment:     Temporary
Scope:     Full-time
Time period:     2 years
Description of the work group/equivalent and its work/focus:

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) performs world-class research in several fields:

1) Epidemiology, focused on environmental exposures, lifestyle, nutrition and outcomes such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and inflammatory diseases employing state-of-the-art approaches such as gene-environment interactions and exposure modelling, and housing large cohort and case-control materials and biobanks;

2) Physiology, with a translational approach in close collaboration with the clinic and a focus on airway inflammation in allergy, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and effects of exposure to organic dust and particular matter, employing advanced physiological human and animal models.

3) Toxicology, including mechanisms of cell death and clearance, carcinogenesis, nanotoxicology, metals and health, physiologically-based toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic modeling, persistant organic pollutants and risk assessment. The multidisciplinary research and educational program at the department constitutes a strong basis for addressing important environmental health challenges.

IMM is seeking to recruit future leaders in the field of environmental and occupational medicine. One postdoctoral position at IMM is now open for application in the field of proteomics.
Qualifications:     The successful candidate should have previous experience of relevant technologies including sample preparation, mass spectrometry including the operation of MALDI-TOF/TOF equipment, and mass spectrometry data analysis and interpretation, and will work within the general framework of existing programmes, and in close collaboration with the core facility for clinical proteomics at Karolinska Institutet.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant area awarded within the past five years, and must be fluent in English. A strong publication record is preferred. The candidate will conduct research in a multidisciplinary and international environment, and intra-personal communication skills and an ability to collaborate with scientists from diverse fields and in different research environments are therefore a prerequisite.
